Hello,
I get really bad hot flashes, especially at night. As a matter of fact, most all of them are at night. So is it menopause or is it Lyrica. I don't know of any way to stop them or reduce them. I have tried natural herbs and over the counter medications and nothing works at all. However, I have not tried prescribed hormone therapy. Wonder if that might work. Just need some ways to feel better and not deal with these hot flashes while I sleep. I change my clothes like 3 or 4 times the night sweats are so bad. Got any advice for me.

Night sweats can be from other things besides menopause or perimenopause. I suggest you see a gyno. You can see if your hormones are really causing this or not.
Thanks for this!

I agree with reesecups. It would be best to get your hormone levels checked and any other such tests to see if it is menopause. I went through these night sweats with memopause. I had been taking hormones but had to aburptly quit and the night sweats started almost imediately.

I used a product called Fem Mek. Do a google search. I got mine from Canada. I'm hesitant to post the link as it sounds like I'm promoting. It's $30.00 a month's worth but I felt human again.

I know that hormones are frowned on by a lot of the medical profession. I go to an Integrative MD who is also a gyno. She very much believes in hormone replacement and can spend long periods of time explaining why women should take them. She does not believe menopause symptoms is the only reason to take them, but that these hormones have bad effects on many parts of the body.
Thanks for this!

If you don't know which ones are out of sync you could be playing with fire. Estrogen can cause cancer for one. There are tests.
Thanks for this!

I went through menopause in just over a year. It hit right after I moved from Calif to KY, so initially I was blaming it on the humid hot summer weather.....but then it went away & never came back. I had problems with anorexia right at the time my periods stopped anyway, so couldn't tell what was causing what.....but didn't bother to do to the MD because by that time I had no money & even with medicare couldn't afford anything more than the nothing care I had chosen.

I had no idea how bad some women's menopause can be & how many years it lasts. Guess I really had it lucky as I wasn't about to take any hormones for anything.

The one thing I had with some of my meds was a temp that ran 99.9 for almost a year. It was miserable because I would get that hot feeling of having a temp (a little different than the sweating with menopause). My body went through so much during those years of pdocs experimenting with different meds.....I don't think my body knew whether it was coming or going & add anorexia issues to that.

Think it's worth while to have hormone level's checked as they can really wack out the body if they are not right

I would say its the menopause. I get hot flushes that wake me up in the night, and hot flushes that leave me drenched in sweat throughout the day. My clothes stick to me, feels like I need to have a shower and get changed.
They make me feel slightly unwell till they past.
My doctor is not keen on prescribing HRT, but then again some doctors are keen. Both my sisters took HRT and felt much better.
I think HRT is safe it has been used for many years now, you should have a chat with your doctor.

I have a similar problem. I had been on BCPs all my life. Last year, I went off the pill because I was turning 49 and I had already been hot-flashing, having perimenopausal symptoms for years. I figured the odds of getting pregnant were tiny so why keep taking them? Well, the hot flashes became nearly impossible to deal with, no sleep, drenched at night, not to mention the irritability/mood swings.

A few weeks ago I had a blood test done to see where my hormones are at. Today I got the results and all hormones are in the normal range! I had hardly any period at all on the pill in the last couple of years, and when I went off, I had NO periods, so that's been about 10 months that I've been off the BCPs.

I asked why I was having these horrible symptoms when the hormones were showing normal?!!! He wants to do a progestin challenge to see if my menstruation can be kick-started. I don't understand how my hormones levels could be normal and no periods. Also, why would menstruating make me feel any better when the hormones are already in the normal range. I'm confused!

I'm sick of it due to the insomnia. I haven't had a full night's rest in god knows how long.
