So what was everyone's first period like? How old were you? Where were you at? I was at my friends and being a late bloomer, I was so happy to be one of the gals. My mother passed when I was 9 so I told my dads gf and made her swear not to tell my dad. And guess what my dad did? We were having a pool party and to be funny, he threw me In fully clothed with a monster sized pad on. I was mortified, started crying, and ran to my room. He couldn't understand what the big deal was so his gf told him. He knocked on my door apologizing. Talk about embarrassing.

Vaguely remember being like 10 or 11 but as far as where or what it was like I don't remember any of that. Can't even remember if I told my parents. I remember my BFF who was 3 years older than me giving me the walk through of pads VS tampons and that's all I really remember of it.
At 40 it just seems to feel like it's always been and I can't wait for them to stop.

I was 11 when I first got my period. Was an early bloomer. Always hated them because of the horrible cramps that had me doubled over in pain

I had recently turned 12, woke up and had it. My mother told me "You're a woman now." And everything in my world changed.

I was 12, it was Boxing Day (day after Christmas). My whole family was going skiing but I wasn't feeling too good so I stayed home. An hour or so later I figured out why I wasn't feeling too good. I have 6 older sisters so I was well prepared. I remember calling my mom to tell her, and I told my step-mom when they got home from skiing.

I was 11 just started secondary school and it was the weekend. I remember it was just before my swimming lessons so I just pretended to be sick as didn't know what to do. I told my mum a few months later but we never talked about it she just asked me if I'm sure and I said yeah

I was 12. I told my mom, and she told everyone and their uncle, much to my embarrassment.
I did not tell my friends at school, because the leader of our little group had not got her period yet. I know she would have called me a liar in front of everyone, because there would have been no way, in her mind, that I, could have gotten my period before her. Getting your period before others was a strange status thing. I'm 46, and this month my period started on day 17 of my cycle. I am so ready to be done with this. I'd at least like to be missing a month or two at this point, but I guess I'm a few years away from that. ![]() |

I was 14 1/2; a late bloomer. I also had a very irregular cycle. It was 35-50 days. It was great except when I was trying to get pregnant. Menopause was easy also, no hot flashes, period just stopped at age 50.

It was a few days after (or before..?) my 13th birthday. I was play wrestling with my favorite uncle and felt my stomach was acting weird. So I went to the bathroom and was shocked to say the least. I had a HEAVY flow, I knew everything that there was to know about periods, since I had a book about puberty somewhere. I ran out and luckily my sister was there and had a pad. I made her swear not to tell my uncle but seeing two girls suddenly run into the bathroom hiding something was obvious, he mentioned it and I was so embarrassed

My first period was hell.
I was 13, and my mom handed me a box of OB tampons. No explanation or guidance whatsoever. To make matters worse, I had a very heavy flow and the tampon got stuck in me for 1 month. ![]() I am STILL so ashamed of the entire experience!! Thinking about it now, 30+ years later, haunts me. I can barely admit what happened to a couple of people IRL (only my ex-hub and an ex-bf know)...that's it! :bawl:

I was 14 when it started. For a few months I had cramps that made me sick. I had to take time off school because of it. Then I had a month of bleeding and a month of cramps and sickness alternately for a while. I have never used tampons and I find that part of my body disgusting. I have always had PMT without the Pill. But I don't have any embarrassing stories other than being sent home from school one day because of it and throwing up all over the pavement that everyone walked home on. And it coming back after it stopped when I lost weight and walking around a hospital ward not realising I had blood all over my legs and pyjamas and people saw it. Really I was pleased to feel a woman again.
I now don't want them to stop as I will feel less of a woman when they do and I will know that I will never have children. But I don't have a strong need to have them and I don't think relationships are a good idea. I just think it would feel final. It just feels like I have wasted my life and it doesn't seem that long since they started. |

I was 11 and it was in the summer. I knew what it was because we'd had health classes just for girls in school. I told my Mom, and she introduced me to the pads that she used, which were awful. They were huge and had to be attached to a belt. She didn't believe in tampons because all the info about toxic shock syndrome was just coming out, so I remained scared of tampons for a long time.

I had my first period one week before my 14th birthday. It started at school. I was excited because my closest girlfriends had already started their periods. I went home and told my mom; she was somewhat nervous and shy, but I had two older sisters so it wasn't that big a deal for me. No major issues.

My first period was on my 13th birthday...I had a house full of screaming kids, I was pissing blood, and I was in so much pain that my Dad took me to the hospital.

I was 10.... My Mum hadn't had the talk yet as she thought I was too young. I was at home playing with my Sister and then the next minute it happened. My Mum sat me down and told me I was a young woman now then on I had permanent PMS lol.... nightmare teenager. Since I was 10 my periods have never been regular I go months without them.... there is no regularity with them unlike my Sister's which are like clock work.

I was 11. It was horrible. I hit my vagina on the bar on my bike. It hurt so bad. But that's when I started having my period. My mom didn't explain anything to me. But I had older sisters and they gave me pads.

I was 13. My mom and I were ready for this, with pads and everything. I started using tampons a year later. It was one of the few times my mom actually helped.
