Pregnant? I hope not...

This post will be a long and wordy one, so I apologize. I tried my best to break it up into manageable paragraphs.

In case you haven't been reading my posts in the Sex and Sexuality forum, my boyfriend and I had sex a little over a week ago, and ever since then, strange things have been happening.

The day after, I noticed pink smudges on the toilet paper after I wiped. I also had lower abdominal cramping type pains, and felt a bit nauseated, and even threw up once, but only a tiny bit (mostly spittle). I attributed this all to him having been larger than any man I've been with and that he may have bruised my cervix while he was inside, or even left abrasions on my vaginal walls. I noted that I was quite sore following sex, and that lasted a day and a half.

We had sex on Friday afternoon, and the Saturday evening following that, I decided to check and see exactly how sore I was still by inserting a sex toy inside of me. I did little more than push it in, and let it sit for a second or two before I pulled it back out. When it came out, I noticed that the tip of it had a tiny bit of blood on it.

When I went to use the bathroom a little bit later, there was a noticeably big smear of blood on the toilet paper after I wiped. Again, I thought this might have been the toy opening up partially healed bruising/abrasions on my cervix and vaginal wall, but I was a bit disconcerted at the sight of the blood, so I posted on the Sex and Sexuality forum about it.

During all of this drama, I had been experiencing a headache, and light headedness, and was taking Aleve for it. I also noticed that my breasts were slightly tender, like they sometimes got before I had my periods.

Now, I should mention that I have an IUD in, although the IUD has been in place for about 5 years now, maybe a little more. My boyfriend also withdrew before he ejaculated, and did so on my chest. I checked the condom he used during, after he had discarded it in the trash and left, and it appeared to not have any rips or tears in it. Although, I didn't fill it with water or anything like that. I just picked it up out of the trash and gave it a brief visual inspection.

Well, all the resources I've read said that at this point, I had to wait a week or two to take a pregnancy test, so one agonizing week later, I've ordered pregnancy tests from Amazon, and during my search for the most reliable kind AND looking at other online resources, I developed another headache, lightheadedness and my lower abdomen aches, much like I felt a week ago. I've also noticed that it's much harder for me to become full, that I'm always rather hungry and thirsty.

I've also discovered something else that's new. I was just examining my breasts, I usually try to do so at least once a month to look for lumps and whatnot (and I was also sort of going through thoughts of possible pregnancy and wanted to see if any fluid would come out through my nipples). When I went to squeeze my nipples, I noticed the smallest amount of clear fluid seeping out. It happened on both nipples and I almost flipped out. You see, I've never had nipple secretions before in my life!!

I'm not sure how I feel. On one hand, I know that being pregnant will probably be very difficult, what with my MI and having to go off of some of, if not all, my medications. I also fear developing Post Partum Depression, or being so unstable during pregnancy that I'd be a danger to myself and the unborn baby. I also have no means of supporting a child of my own right now. I barely earn any money as it is.

On the other side, I've often thought about being pregnant, to the point where I may have obsessed about it. Every time I see a baby or toddler, I can't help but smile and watch them for a minute or two, almost longingly. I even settled on names I'd use if ever the day would come that I'd have a baby, not that I ever plan on it.

So yeah, the pregnancy tests are on their way, but until then, I'm sure I'll be a nervous wreck. Cross your fingers with me and lets hope I'm not pregnant.

So the blood that's spotting. Is it fresh like period blood?
Did he finger you? Any way like a fingernail scratched you? Did you use a new toy you weren't familiar with?

I'm not very familiar with the iud. Do u still ovulate? Bec it sounds like some pms symptoms that I get.

Do they have pregnancy tests for only a wk after sex??

While an IUD is inside the woman and active, the woman will still ovulate, however, the IUD will secrete hormones that thin the uterine lining to the point where the fertilized egg can't embed and start a viable pregnancy. The fertilized egg just dies off, I guess, and is part of the menstrual blood stuff, if there is enough lining to slough off that is.

The blood was indeed fresh, like period blood. However, because the IUD, and the way it thins the uterine lining, I don't normally have any period bleeding. If I do, on the rare occasion menstruate, the resulting blood is old and brown. This blood was fresh and bright red.

The toy I used was one I've had for a while. I've inserted it before with no problems. It was when I inserted it that night that I saw blood for the first time on it. My boyfriend didn't finger me, so a fingernail scratching something inside of me is out of the question. He preformed oral on me and we had sex, but like I said before, he withdrew and ejaculated on my chest.

I also read that one of the first signs of pregnancy is thick milky white discharge in the vagina. I checked just now and indeed have that discharge. It doesn't smell and I have no itching or discomfort with it, which is indicative of being pregnant.

God, it just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?

Wait, your description of the IUD is inconsistent...which one do you have in? If you have the Mirena or another hormonal IUD, you will not ovulate. You also are not likely to have a period. If you do have a Mirena, it needs to be replaced every five years to be effective. Also make sure you're checking the strings to double check it hasn't moved (that's uncommon, but it's good to be safe!)

If you have the copper IUD (Paragard) you WILL ovulate (This is the one I have in). It works by making the vagina a hostile environment where either the sperm will die or the egg will be unable to implant. You WILL have a period, and likely a heavier one than if you didn't use birth control. You will also probably have some intense cramps or as bad or worse than without birth control.

Also, from personal experience, white discharge doesn't necessarily coincide with being pregnant. I have white/off-white discharge off and on and I'm not pregnant. If you have the Paragard in and you used a condom, there's only a tiny, tiny chance you could be pregnant. Now, if it's a Mirena, I can't say since I don't know when it expired. A condom used correctly one time should still be pretty effective.

(Note: Obviously, I'm not a doctor and if you can go to an OBGyn or something that would be ideal. This is all just based on my personal experience and research)

I am using the Mirena IUD. Maybe I didn't understand how it worked completely. Either way, I ordered some pregnancy tests just to be sure.

But will a pregnancy test work after a week?
Even after artificial insemination a woman waits 2 wks. Just know from my niece.
Maybe your iud moved during sex?

I'm also guessing you don't keep track of your cycle, like when you're actually ovulating? Which is the ideal time to conceive...which is a VERY small window.

Well, the Mirena IUD stopped my periods altogether, so yes, I have no clue when I ovulated last, much less would have normally had a period.

Last night I had a dream I was bleeding again, that the toilet paper had pink smears on it.

My pregnancy tests should be here on Wednesday, and I'll take one on Thursday morning, as they are urine based tests and urine is most concentrated first thing when you wake up. That should bring me to about two weeks past the time we had sex.

Well, I'm not going to dwell on the negative. If it happened, it happened, and so be it. However, I'm probably not even pregnant so there is likely nothing to even worry about. It's probably just me overreacting to nothing. Making mountains out of molehills.

Sooooo any news????

I got the pregnancy tests and took one. According to it, I'm not pregnant. I'll take the second one in another couple of weeks, just to be sure.
