Fake eyelashes, fake eyebrows, fake tans, plumped lips, face caked with makeup......why in the heck do people do this to themselves? According to the aunt in Full House whose line has always stuck with me, "the point of wearing makeup is to look like you're not wearing any makeup at all". I don't get the new trends at all, but then again I don't wear makeup. Why not just embrace natural beauty?

Because men can grow beards, but otherwise women just look like non-hairy men. From the neck up. This is my theory, anyway. So SOME people go to a LOT of trouble to make sure there is a BIG difference between male and female appearance, because in reality there often is not. A lot of mannerisms even are socialized, they are not inherently m or f.

they do so because it makes them feel good about their self....

example Dolly Parton (a famous country music singer/writer/ actress) who is known for her big body parts, big hair, lots and lots of make up and lots and lots of "accessories" She grew up in poverty, didnt even have the clothes needed so her mother made her a special coat of many colors. in many interviews and in her recent autobiographical movies she says the reason she loves everything to do with wigs, make up, and accessories is because when she was growing up she saw a woman wearing these things and felt that were the most prettiest things there were and wanted others to see her as pretty as that lady was. She knew she was pretty on the inside but felt outside she was not. she wanted the outside to reflect what was inside.

another reason people wear all that in your post is health reasons. some people have health reasons that they need to cover up or take care of... allopecia for example is where someone can not medically grow hair on their bodies so they draw the hair on, they wear wigs and make up to take the place of what they do not have.

some people wear allt hat because its part of their employment or a disguise for after their employment so that they wont be recognized out in public.

my point there are as many reasons as there are people doing it I guess.

one time my therapist was wearing make up, wig and false eyelashes. I asked her why she was doing that.... she said why are you wearing that shirt, why are you wearing those pants,, why do you like eating strawberries, why do you like the music you listen to, why do you watch the movies you watch....... she went on naming all these things she knew that I liked to do and wear and listen to.

her point for some people its not a necessity its just their own preferences of what they like, just like I love certain clothing, food, music, movies.....

my suggestion is maybe look at why you love what you do and maybe those in your life who do this can answer your question of why they do it.
Thanks for this!

I’m not into full face made up from top to bottom

But I like filling in my brows and eyeliner, especially mascara. Eyeshadow is usually only to highlight my brow bone and middle of lid. Neutral lipstick

Do I wear this every day ??? No .... except for my eyebrows daily if I have to go out.

I put on makeup for ME not for anyone else.

Well I have a wig that's my ideal hairstyle I wear on rare occasions. I haven't really decided where to wear it is why. Natural hair feels so much better too. I wear makeup every day but I wear it to enhance my natural beauty. I love primping and the bathroom is my favorite room in the house. I play with my hair and makeup all the time. I don't really think men and women look the same except for accessories. My daughter doesn't wear make up come to think of it she cut her hair like a boy so she does kind of come off as being a boy to strangers sometimes. But I honestly think she's beautiful despite her choice to make herself less so. She has beautiful features.

I think ppl just like to feel better about themselves. And everyone's perception of what looks good and what makes them feel good is going to be an individual thing.

For example, breast implants women often get them wanting to look and feel better. I personally, have been thinking about getting a breast reduction. The ones that have or want implants can't understand why I would even consider a reduction just the same as I can't understand why they would want larger ones.

It's the same with the latest eyebrow trend,it looks ridiculous to me.But I'm sure my unkempt bushy brows look ridiculous to them.

I don't think people think of themselves as fake as much as they wish to be alike.

I have a related question....

Does it make anyone else feel insecure? I never wear much make up, at most I'll wear some BB cream and mascara when I'm going out. My skin doesn't like being covered in make up and I would just feel "not me" with make up on. But when I see guys that I like, liking these perfectly made up, "fake" woman, I feel like I can't compare and no one will ever notice me.

Every now and then I like to do my makeup. It makes me feel better about myself. It just takes me forever to do it. I like to watch makeup tutorials on youtube to see the latest trends. I usually don't do my make up as caked on as they do on youtube. I'd love to figure out makeup tricks on my own and do youtube tutorials for more natural looking makeup. there's this hilarious girl i watch on youtube that does funny stuff and one time she ran into a door and her eyebrow makeup left a mark on the door. haha. I don't do my stuff that thick. For one it's hard asf to get everything off, especially mascara. My face doesn't look so bad without makeup though since i use crazy expensive mary kay face products. I just get self conscious about the dark circles around my eyes sometimes and the 1 wrinkle I have on my forehead. I really need to invest in some mary kay wrinkle filler when I get some money.

I agree! I almost never wear makeup and when I do it is a foundation. I never got my eyelashes, eyebrows, or any other thing done. I just don't understand it. It almost seems like everyone is trying to look the same these days.

I feel so disconnected from other women my age (millennial) when they talk about makeup and beauty products/ rituals I have never heard of. I have always preferred to occupy my time and money with other things. Sometimes it makes me feel like I'm an outsider to my gender.

Sometimes I feel that way! I have NO IDEA how to put glam makeup on and I have heard I look terrible with it on- it's like my skin rejects it.

It can be intimidating to be around those women but I have a boyfriend who loathes the done up look. Sometimes it just takes finding the right guy- they are out there.

Makeup is a part of art. If some people don’t like wearing them then that’s okay. If some people love wearing them that should be okay too. There are many other things we can see from a person than focusing on how thick their makeup is.

I'm pretty much the same way. The only thing I wear now is lipgloss or lipbalm and I paint my nails. As for makeup, I don't wear it anymore. I just usually wash my face and take care of it by using a good moisturizer.

As for getting bigger breasts, I rather not, lol. I honestly don't see the point in them but I guess they get them so they feel better about themselves or because men love big breasted woman. To me it's fake, but everyone is different and likes their own thing.

I'd like to have a few close friends as woman my age, but it's sort of hard because a lot of them are in competition with each other all the time. I've always been more interested in science, books, art supplies and collecting music artists that I like to listen too or crystals and gemstones. I've saved a lot of money from not purchasing make-up anymore. I threw a lot of my old lipglosses out recently and only own two or three now.

I also don't wear a lot of make up. I like putting in on for special occasions though like when travelling or a special meal or something. I like the natural look. A little bit of make up enhances some features that make me feel better and look better. Other than that, I rarely wear it.

We sound a lot a like. I also prefer books and art supplies.

I hate it when people alter their voices when just talking to someone that makes them sound like a fake. Take the Kardashians for example. When they want to sound seductive, I've noticed they do this. Sounds baby-ish to me.
