Does anyone have any experience with uterine ablation? I am finally at the breaking point and need to do something about this. I am 48 now. Since I turned 40 my periods have been getting heavier and heavier each year. I am now at point where I am using a super plus tampon and a pad at the same time and it only lasts about 40 minutes! This is only on the first day though. I try and take 400 mg of Ibuprofen every 4 hours but it still doesn't really do anything to slow it down. I have put ice on my stomach, drink lots of water, legs raised. This last period was awful and because of the excessive bleeding I had an awful headache along with that fuzzy head feeling and couldn't stay standing for long.

I don't like surgery because it takes me a week to recover from the anesthesia. Has anyone had an ablation in the office instead of surgery?
would you do it again?
Help!

If I sat at home all day I wouldn't care but I can't go to work anymore when this is happening and I can't hardly see straight, am tired and have to keep laying down.

That would be a nightmare. To ease back that level of bleeding go to your doctor and get a script for Tranexamic Acid. It should help in the short term. Talk with your doctor about how to proceed. There are a number of options but your medical history will be the best guide for your doc and gynae to go along.

An ablation may be an option, and a good one, but because the lining of the uterus is scarred during this process it can make it difficult to diagnose issues that arise further down the track.

Please be guided by the professionals.
Thanks for this!

Yes, I do have the tranexemic acid pills but I have never taken them because I can't swallow them whole. Have you taken those? If I break them up will I get sick? The other day when I was bleeding bad I was trying to swallow and couldn't do it. I was crying, at the end of my rope. ugh
the bottle says "do not break, swallow whole"

I am sorry. That would make me cry too. Is it possible to swallow them with food or yoghurt? They are large and I need to drink a lot of water to get them down.

Tranexamic Acid also comes in liquid form.

Can you ring, or better yet go in to the place where you bought them up and let them know that they are too hard to swallow and ask them for some tips. Ask them if you could crush them.

Maybe another brand of this medication will scored and be easier to ingest. There will be a solution to this.
Thanks for this!

Yes, I called the pharmacy and was told I can crush them (even though bottle says not to?? hmmmm) and was told I can get it in liquid but it is a few hundred dollars!!
Do you take the pills ? Do they work? less bleeding?
If I have to pay for liquid I will! I will go one more month, I will try the liquid or swallow. If it doesn't work I will schedule an ablation.

They did work. I suggest you crush them.

They didn't have to work for long because I had a hysteroscopy very soon after I needed to take them and that seems to have settled things down for now.

Advil will thin the blood. Ask your doctor for an alternative pain relief. I’m sorry your suffering , I use to bleed like that and mine was cancer so full hysterectomy. I was bery glad to be done with that mess.

Hope the treatment helps you.

I had an ablation done in spring 2016, I think, bec of heavy periods & pain. It was done in the hospital & I was home that afternoon.
I too was at my breaking point.

Most of the women in my family had it & raved about it bec “no more periods!”
Well mine only slowed it by half, which was great & more manageable by far, but since then the pain issue is still present.

So I’ve decided to have surgery again, soon & get the hysterectomy done. I’m tired of losing a week every month bec of pain issues & im hoping it’s all worth it.
I really hope you find some relief bec nowadays we shouldn’t have to put up with it.

I had an ablation, never had a day of bleeding since. Was done OP and home in a couple of hours. I wish I had had it done much sooner.

I just want to mention that Christina is correct - ibuprofen definitely thins the blood, thus causing heavier bleeding. That's why we're told not to take it prior to surgery, or before getting a tattoo.
