I need to have a medical procedure next month. Filling out the paperwork, I see that a relative, friend, or acquantance is required to drive you home.

What do you do if you don't know anyone? I've lived in this tiny town for 3 months and don't know anyone. I mean, I've chatted with one neighbor for 2 minutes. I know the local bartender. I feel weird asking for them to come get me from the doctor's office.

The person providing the ride is supposed to responsible for you. That's why you're not supposed to take a cab or use Uber or Lyft. Even if I felt fine with asking these people for a ride, I don't know that they are responsible people.

Has anyone else had this problem? Surely people don't have to turn down medical tests they need because they don't know anyone.

@imaginethat that is difficult. Have you a relationship with a church where you could ask a member of the congregation.

It would be expensive but your insurance company may cover or refer you to a private duty nurse service.

Contact the senior center and ask them what options they know about.

@CANDC, church is really not "my thing". I expect I'll eventually find someone around here that I can identify with and form a friendship.

That's a good idea to contact the senior center. They've gotta run into this problem a lot.
Thanks for this!

I asked a co worker. She was able to use "sick time" so there was an incentive for her to have a day off.

There are agencies that will do it as well. The doctor might have suggestions.
Thanks for this!

I hate that medical practices/hospitals do that. They seem to assume that everyone has a crowd of family and friends standing at the ready to help the person out, or that everyone has the funds to hire a driver.

Yes, I would speak with your doctor or a nurse you trust and explain the situation.
