Get a good support bra too as that will help with the pain, you can also get cold pads you put in the fridge and reuse, also (boy do I go on) you can freeze your milk so if you want to go out and somone else is feeding them via a bottle they can still have your milk.
I tried with all six of mine to breast feed and failed with all cept the last one for six months but then it too dried up ![]() Good luck with it and remember its shrinking your belly every time you feed him ! |

...and another suggestion for if your breasts get too sore...put a cabbage leaf over them. Apparently it helps tremendously. I remember in one maternity ward I was in they kept cabbages in the fridge especially for this! Sorry, I wouldn't know from personal experience- my milk never came in at all.

I found these things called Lily Padz (I think that's the correct spelling) when I was breastfeeding, and they worked great to stop leaks for me. I used the regular nursing pads at night or at home, but if I was going out I used these instead because I thought the regular ones looked noticeable under my clothes. I think they are made of silicone, and they are very comfortable.

I was never able to breast feed so I have never had large "puppies" as a fashion advisor calls them.

Even if he isn't feeding enough to "empty" you, pump it. Store it. breast milk is a hot commodity when he's doubly hungry and you're wore out.

it is good to pump once in a while, but your body responds to your baby's needs and if you keep pumping more out, your body will think it needs more. Then you are in the DDDDD bra size! lol
I miss breastfeeding, my youngest is 11. |

That is good things are more normal now.
I remember once going shopping without my kids at the mall and I heard another baby cry, and I squirted all over the place! And here I was trying to have a little time to myself away from the kids! lol One of the my best memories was when my daughter was maybe 2 weeks old, and I fell asleep while nursing, and she did too, but she woke up and started to nurse all on her own while I was sleeping. I remember waking up and I thinking at that moment I really felt like a mother. Enjoy these times, they are so precious. |

cool thread, something so many have in common. I remember with my first I swear I could have cut the top off a gallon milk jug and wore one on each side! I wore a diaper under my shirt on the other side that wasn't being nursed cause I leaked so bad. At night I would wear two and still wake to a wet bed. Those are funny memories. Happyflowergirl is so right about those precious times. I also tandem nursed. That was a trip. I stopped after 4-5 months and weaned the oldest. I think we are equipped to do wonderful things if we are given the freedom to listen to our bodies. I can't imagine having to get up and get a bottle if I hadn't nursed. Or the incredible expense! Formula is so expensive!

What wonderful memories this thread brought back. I nursed all three of my children and it was a trip, leaking all over, but one of the best experiences of my life. I had cracked nipples with the last and got an infection. A friend of mine taught me to blow dry my nipples after nursing to keep them good and dry! What an absurd sight I was, but it worked!
