I'm almost 39 years old with no children. All right, so I wasn't sexually active until I was 37 but still. . . I realize things like that take time but I'm growing more and more impatient.

Late in my 20's I did a dumb thing resulting in no periods for an entire year. I'm wondering if that messed things up so badly that I'll never have kids. My husband - 7 years older than I - thinks it might be him because of an injury he suffered earlier. Both of us are afraid to get tested and right now we couldn't afford it any way.

I've heard of a couple of cases of first-time mothers in their 40's but they seem to be the exception rather than the rule.

If anyone has any suggestions or support it would be greatly appreciated.

I know I am probably asking an obvious question but have you mapped out your ovulation calender, it is best to try two days before all they way through two days after your ovulation day. I think they even have home tests now that can help you figure out good days to give it a try.

Yes there are things you can buy over the counter that will let you know when the best time to concieve is. First time mom's over 40 are becoming more and more common. I have two cousins that decided they wanted kids after 40. One just had a healthy baby boy and another is due in a couple of months.

Once you're able you and hubby should be checked, is there anything worse than wondering? If you know there is a problem there may be ways of increasing your chances of having a baby. Good Luck!
