it said i didn't work enough in this country. well duh, i've been trying to but unable to because of the depression. at least i tried! but i guess that's not good enough. this sucks, the extra money would have really helped. plus, i wouldn't feel so bad if i was contributing something to the household finances.

reapply and don't let the time lapse for when you can appeal your decision. This way if you get approved it will go back to date of application and you will be owed back money. Even though you may not have enough quarters to get social security disability you can still qualify for SSI which is state funded. That simply means although Social Security will not be funding it completely, the state you live in will be. You will probably also be entitled to food stamps, and full medicaid to pay for your prescriptions and medical expenses.
Don't give up yet but realize that the check you get if approved will not be a whole lot.
I retired for the State of Florida doing these kind of applications about six years ago so I have some knowledge of the process although each state is different.
Good luck and keep fighting if you feel you are unable to work.

I've been denied both unemployment this year and disability several years ago. I have know several people with severe disabilities that have been denied SSI. I don't think you can get it without a lawyer. God help anyone who lives in the state of Mississippi. It is the poorest state in the nation mostly because the requirements for Medicaid and unemployment are so strict (also because the politicians want the money for themselves). I lost my job because I lost my accessibility to fast-speed internet service. I was working from my brother's and he kicked me out. The state said I voluntarily quit, denied me, and penalized me for filing. I have appealed and am currently waiting a decision.

thank you both. it's really frustrating, i have to work to get disability, yet i can't work because of my disability. it makes no sense.

i don't need foodstamps or medicaid, we're still covered by tricare, plus my husband's new job has health benefits too. i just would like to help out a little financially, since things have been so tight. and even if it's not much, every little bit helps.
