Went to Williams-Sonoma to apply for a job as a call center rep. These are the guys that own Pottery Barn and boy is there call center nice.
Anyway, they wanted me to fill out an application instead of turning in my resume. I watched what was going on around me and found that after someone turned in an application a guy would come out and say, "we will look over your app and get back to you in a couple of weeks". I was there for the training class they have starting on the 18th and felt put off. But once I turned in my resume, the HR lady called me back and said she was going to go ahead and put me in the next level for testing on Thursday (computer app tests and customer service situational skills). I know I don't have the job yet, but it was wierd because when I turned off my car I heard my own voice say, "well, here it is, your next job". I have a 7 year gap in my work history and they accepted the fact that I was caring for a disabled family member fulltime. On the app it said last 3 years of experience. At least they are flexible. Anway, wish me luck on my tests on Thursday. I guess the next step after that is the interview. I am polishing up on my computer skills tomorrow so I am familiar with the latest Microsoft Word and Excel programs. I want to be the best! I want to get that interview then the job and I will jump through hoops to do it. |

Oh Nuckingfutz, that is so awesome. I'm glad they accepted your explanation for your 7 year gap on your resume. I really hope that you do well on the tests and that you get an interview and a job. You deserve a break.

Thanks for the encouragement. Passed the tests and now I get to go for an interview on Tuesday. I can pass the interview with no problem, the drug screen no problem.
I did do the bipolar thing a few years back and went shoplifting and got caught... I am scared I will be turned down because of that. I think the criminal record check just might do me in... um any advice? |

Hi Nucking!!!!
Good luck!!!!! I had to have a background check last year that might turn up something. I was just upfront about it. I clearly explained what happened emphasizing that it was a one time thing and why it happened and what I had done to ensure it wouldn't happen again. I got the position. ![]() ![]()

Pulled up my "record". I forgot about the 2 checks I bounced and forgot about and they are on my record as well. So do I mention the bipolar thing and how I wasn't diagnosed properly or put on meds but now I am so I will never let this happen again?
I was also going to try and call my t and ask her about it as well. I think it would be the only thing that would keep me from getting hired. I might not get to her in time, so I am asking for all the feedback I can get. |

I got the job offer! It was a good interview. But now they have to do a back round check...ack! It did not come up in the interview. News spread like wildfire thorough out my family. I hope the backround check comes back okay. I don't start the job until the 18th, so I just like waiting... and praying. Hopefully everything will come back okay. I'm really worried about it, like I'm not getting excited about the job yet or anything because they are real strick on the theft thing and I've done it 2 times plus have had bounced checks (those are like 10 years old though).
Grrrrrr! |
