Hey everyone! I'm going into my second year in graduate school. I'm going for my MS in mental health counseling. I have been looking for a 100hr internship site for my practicum, and I have yet to find anything. I'm getting very nervous because I need to have it by Fall 2013. I have called multiple places, emailed, applied and I just keep on getting disappointed. Many don't answer the phone (a common thing, I know) and others just say they bring in interns all at a specific starting month, not lining up when I can actually start for my class. I feel like I'm running out of options as well as hope. I even started looking into sites in Mass (where I go to school) even if it is an hour or so commute. Does anyone have any tips for obtaining an internship? Answers are much appreciated ^_^

Have you contacted your school to see if they have a list of places that have taken internships from them before? How about contacting your student advisor for assistance?

I know it's hard to find internships at times. I hope you find one really soon!

Off topic, my brother lived in New Britain for a number of years, we grew up in Southington.

Check out the APA site: Accredited Internship Programs in Professional Psychology

If you have applied to all the sites in your area, after talking to your school about the problem, I'd make an appointment and go talk to a person at the site closest to you and see what they suggest and how they would handle your problem if they were you. See what information you can glean.

Thanks everyone I appreciate it. I have gotta a list from my school and have contacted most (some were just too too far) but most just lead to dead ends. "positions are already filled" is the most common. But I will check out that site and yes I know of Southington lol great place I heard!
Thanks for this!

Good luck!

Yeah, Southington used to be a great place.....has grown way too much, too quickly and it's just not "home" anymore. I moved from there to NH in 1986 and never looked back!
