I know I've been obsessing on this site about my possible new job (sorry). After my interview last week, the employer told me they'd let me know one way or the other "early" this week. If it's no go and they hired someone else, do you think they'll call me to tell me that, or will they send the ol' rejection letter? What's your best guess?

The low self esteem part of me says a rejection letter is on the way, but I so badly want to call the office manager to find out for sure. Would that be out of line to do today? Yes, probably. Or not? Wait until tomorrow afternoon's mail has come to call if no word?

Except for right now with my depression I have a few prospects in the cue. It puts me in more of a power position and I don't dwell on that one job. If I am working with a recruiter they will let the employer know I am close to a decision and they should make an offer if they want me. I'd wait til tomorrow to contact them or Monday if you can stand it. They could send a rejection letter or they could be on the fence.

There is one job where the decision maker when to home for Xmas and stayed for an ill family member. So I don't have an answer. I'd like to get it but I'm not counting on it. If it happens it happens.

I know I'm cavalier about it. I'm in a very apathetic place. Can't get excited about it.

I wish I could be more cavalier but I desperately need a job - - as much to relive my boredom and feelings of uselessness as for the money. I ended up calling the office manager and left a voicemail inquiring as to whether an offer had been made. Now I realize at this point, I just need to wait for a return call or rejection letter.

I have a few other irons in the fire, but I really want this particular job. I have been reminded by friends that if it's meant to be it'll be. Sounds cliché, but I'm trying to have that mindset at this point.

I'm not sure that I could tell based on that information. If you don't get this one, don't worry, you will find another.

I've been talking to a recruiter about a position on and off for a couple weeks. She rewrote my resume. Told me they were accepting applications. Then she tells me they did a staff reorg and would be looking at resumes over the next 4-6 weeks! They had a similar job advertised so I asked her if that was the same one. I also half joked that I hope I am not looking in 4-6 weeks. She said I got you covered. Let's just wait. What does she think... I'm gonna put all my eggs in this job?! Most recruiters know you can't just do that so they will consider you for other companies. They still get a commission! She seems daft.

Definitely keep perusing other positions. It'll help keep you mind occupied and at a minimum you build your interviewing skills.

I'm definitely perusing other options. Have applied to a few jobs online since my interview last week. The more days that pass, the more hope I lose that the job is mine. (Based on what? my therapist would ask! Answer: nothing, but just a hunch) I'm planning for the "worst" (that I don't get the job, and I would be okay with that)

When I was applying for my internship, they told me they would let me know one way or the other "Early next week" or before Christmas or something along those lines. When they finally did get in touch with me, they told me they would have a final decision the week of Jan. 6th. My interview was back in the middle of December. They eventually offered me a job, but I definitely understand the feeling that the longer it takes them to decide or let you know, the more you feel like you're not going to get it.

I think it's good you left a voice mail. I would have called too. It shows that you're interested. Keep looking for other jobs, but at the same time, don't lose hope on this one either. Keep going with the "whatever will be, will be attitude."

Good luck with your job hunt!
