Seriously, it's all bull - geared towards certain careers that are the new 'best' careers and such, and if youdon't fit into that category there must be something wrong with you.
All the teachers and writers/poets and artists and philosophers and the like are thrown to the wayside if they don't fit pick a career that'll 'make money' because that's all this world is geared to these days. That's all modern society has been geared towards for the last 500 years or so- all superficial vanity and materialism, it makes me sick. SO what if I work at the grocery store, it's honest work. What, you'd rather have a robot do your work? No matter that I'm over qualified for the job and desperately seek a job that challenges me intellectually- nothing out there is for me. Just boring, mundane office receptionist and admin jobs- wow, SOO much fun! ![]() ![]() **** that ****! ![]() ~"Our problems stem from our acceptance of this filthy, rotten system." - Dorothy Day Last edited by FooZe; Feb 08, 2014 at 04:39 PM. I agree with you. I chose an exciting job, I didn't want boring mundaness. (If that's a word lol.) I chose to be an EMT. I'll always have a job, the medical field is always looking for people. I don't care if I get paid $10-12 an hour, it's a job I chose on my own. I won't ever be bored.

I feel ya! My field (PR) is pretty fun, but jobs are nearly impossible to find, for me anyway . I want to work for a non-profit, not some evil corporation. I work in customer service atm, and am so bored!
Hang in there!

Totally relate to this after today....I grew up believing I could achieve my dreams, so I went out and tried, but failed because "life happens." Got a beautiful daughter out of it all though and a family that loves me, but had to wave goodbye to grad school in order to provide. Now I'm stuck halfway to where I want to be and with the potential to do it, but not the right situations/circumstances. So I'm left doing whatever work I can find with a B.A in Psych (which is very limited in the city of 2,000 people where I live) because no other job pays enough for me to pay my student loans which are just as much as my rent currently. Needless to say that my current employer has become dissatisfied with my performance, which means that I get to put even more unwanted effort into this job if I want to make sure my family is fed and we stay out of debt. Yipee!!! Sorry I usually don't ***** like this, but today I needed to...

Yeah life happens & it's perhaps really frustrating for many people to give up on their dreams & drag themselves to work & put effort into some thing they don't like. It's like a dream come true to have a profession that you adore. But mostly, its not possible for many people & we are left with the choice of being able to provide for our families & to completely overlook our likes/dislikes which then become a secondary issue & the life becomes really boring & dull. I'm not working atm but can understand it pretty well since I also have to do it in the near future but I've heard that you should either do what makes you happy or learn to be happy with what ever you do or in other words "Do what you Love or love what you do". I know its easy said than done but do we've a choice(for most unsatisfied people) so why not make it work for us at least it's better then sitting on the couch & finding a job from the classifieds & listening to the rude & sarcastic comments of others or getting sunk in depression.
Best of Luck for All! |

If the working world allows me to buy creamy oreo milkshakes then I'll gladly embrace the working world.

Seeking your ideal job is way overrated. I have an artist friend who is now over 50 and has been working in a retail store for almost 10 years. She works 20-30 hours per week and gets paid around 12/hour. She chose that store because of the cool environment and health insurance. Supposedly this is all so she can do her art. But between working a second job to fill in those missing hours and barely being able to pay her bills she is too wiped and too poor to do her art. That's not a good strategy. Sorry. It also a pretty extreme story. I hope you all don't fall into this trap.
Stop trying to find the ideal job and move beyond the grocery store bag line. Be open to jobs that are boring because they lead to other jobs that pay better and are less boring. And guess what? You might find something enjoyable about them. I did. I made buckets and now my studio is stocked with all the supplies I need to do my art. And I earned the ability to take time off each year so I can make stuff. On top of that there are careers out there for intellectuals and writers but nobody is just going to hand it to you. You have to get into an industry and find them. And when you get tired of corp land you will have hopefully made enough and learned enough to choose your own path. This video is by the host of dirty jobs. He has some great lessons. Most people who do dirty jobs are happier. They didn't plan to do a dirty job most of the time. Who would? But they are HAPPIER. EDIT: my friend has a PhD in art. It's a hard lesson but once you get out of school regardless of your degree you start at the bottom unless you have some special connection or luck. They didn't tell you that? ![]() Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Last edited by Anonymous817219; Feb 08, 2014 at 04:17 PM. |

Yeah, I'm feeling much better, I as having a down day- of course I've been consuming a lot of caffeine and sugar as of late too.
![]() I am trying to stay positive though and thinking outside the box, I got selected to participate in a research study later in the week that pays cash compensation- I've applied to like over 10 of those in the past year and this is the first one- so I'm happy- over $100, whoot! Whoot! ![]() |
