What do I do????

I am unemployed (approaching 1 year)....I pick up jobs just here and there to make ends meet...

But I have no insurance, and since I own a home...do not qualify for Medicaid?

I went to healthcare.gov.org and some other sites, to try and sign up for Obamacare...but either: 1.) each site locked me out or 2.) each site wanted employer information-would not accept unemployed...or 3.) one site had this premium of $600.00+ a month...WHAT????? I could not afford that when i was working?????

Any suggestions or advice, I appreciate

I can't give you and good news. I haven't had insurance in nearly a year. Signed up for Obamacare and they want 1400 for me and my husband. He's on SS and I'm not making that much. So we can't afford what they offer without getting into our retirement money. I own a home too so Medicaid is out, too. Looks like we are in the same boat.

I am in this same dilemma. I have not had medical insurance since 2009. I just cannot afford it. I rent but that does not make any difference. Watch out for that obamacare. I have heard from several computer tech people that the site is easy for hackers to get into and get your personal info. I made $ 11, 000 last year. I am slightly over the poverty level. The gov. says I can afford it. My share would be $50 a month for the premium. That does not count the copays, coinsurance, deductibles, drug copays. Has the gov. forgotten we are in a recession? I am having trouble just paying for basic monthly everyday expenses. I do not have an extra $50 per month.

Call a phone number and get help researching plans and getting good numbers. I own my home and have enough money to get whatever plan I want (unemployed/retired, too young for Medicare yet) and buy premium plans and they're only around $400.

Or, try ehealthinsurance.com they just ask for your ZIP code, sex, date of birth and then you can check off how much you want to pay ("under $400") and they will only show you those plans (my choices had one at $338 when I did it just now).

If you live in one of the states that expanded their Medicaid, go ahead and apply. If not, then I'm sorry.....this is one of the biggest flaws about Obamacare. It was NOT written into the mandates that all states expand their Medicaid to people previously not qualified (like a single, low-income man with no children, for example). Assets like homes may not count; each state is different I presume.

This is huge denial in this country about the MILLIONS of unemployed people, esp. long-term. They have no advocates, no voice, etc. If Medicaid won't accept them, then they fall through the cracks.

"Affordable" my ***. Even with the "assistance", not everybody qualifies for help. And a friend told me the income calculator is complicated. And how the **** do you estimate your income when many employers lay off people at the drop of a hat??? If you overestimate, you may end up owing the government money for their "assistance."

Yeah, it really depends on your state. My state was one that did not expand Medicaid and there is a minimum income to qualify for the Obamacare subsidies.

I would google the Obamacare rules in your state or call someone like another poster suggested before filling out anything else on the website. You have to give them access to a lot of very private information and waste a lot of time on a website that doesn't really work just to find out that you don't actually qualify for anything you can afford.
