I just started a new job, and sunday will be my first training shift. It's going to be mostly elearning as our store isn't open yet to do any actual work, so that's good, but I've been off work for 3 years and subsequently have the attention span of a 2 year old. I need advice on keeping my head in it, and on retaining information. Neither of which I do well since becoming heavily medicated. It's a 7 hour shift so I'm pretty concerned about this. Also advice for the coming weeks once the store opens and the physical part starts as well, as I haven't been on my feet for more than an hour at a time in years.

Bring a notepad! It impresses employers, helps keep you focused in the moment, and lets you refresh your memory later on.

Good idea hvert - taking notes has always helped me. Only advice I have is to look this as a one day at a time thing. That is all you have to do - show up and do the best you can one day at a time.
Best wishes. I hope you end up loving what you do. Work you enjoy is good for the soul. ![]() |
