I work for two companies. One only provides work of a morning, the other of an afternoon. My second company are really exploitive. They continously ask me to attend unpaid training and meetings at their headoffice (Often late at night and I don't drive) . I am an hourly paid employee and have been told I should be paid by a uk employment body as it comes under working time.
My boss insisted I go to a meeting tomorrow night that goes on for 2 hours and so will finish at 10PM. I said I couldnt but would happily do the training during paid work hours and he said this wasnt an option and I HAD to attend. I said I had spoken to the UK employment body over thefact they should be paying me to attend and he didn't reply to the email.
I now feel bullied into attending as I know if I dont, I will be threatened with a disciplinary as I know others have been. Now I have made the decision to go, I am worried they will berate me about calling the employment body and maybe discipline or fire me for that.
I havent been able to eat or sleep in days. I would feel such a failure if I lost this job and only worked mornings. They make me feel like I am always doing something wrong and it is making me ill with worry.

you have to look at what is actually going on and not how they are making you feel. look at the facts. they are exploiting you. they are making you work for free. they are bullying you. if they fire you, they are dong so illegally and that is something you can report as well. it has nothing to do with your job performance. nothing to do with you. you are standing up for yourself. you are refusing to be bullied. right now you are not feeling good about yourself for being bullied into the meeting either. wouldn't you feel prouder of yourself for standing up to them? You did the right thing. they are in the wrong. remember that. it isn't about you. take care.

I am not proud of myself for going but feel I have no other option. I am not eating or sleeping at the moment and having to wait for a disciplinary threat to come through will just make me more ill. I am torn in my decision, no idea what to do for the best

He said he is holding an appraisal with me soon. Feel sick as am sure he will fire me. I know you are right with what you say Kaliope but the anticipation and waiting for it all is making me ill.

Stand your ground. You didn't do anything wrong. Don't cower in fear or say "Yes ma'am yes sir", you deserve to be paid to attend meetings and you didn't do anything wrong. Stand strong, stand proud. I really don't think its even legal for them to fire you over this and if they do, say you're going to talk to HR or file a complaint for work harassment and bullying and unpaid hours and unpaid travel expenses since you don't have a car.

HR is in agreement it is ok, that's the problem.
I am paid by the hour and am not on a salary so I know I should be paid but they all think otherwise. It is making me sick with anxiety, all the demands and threats.

Cannot deal with work anymore. Six long more weeks until Christmas break and having to put up with their constant demands and feeling sick and anxious every weekday evening. I am so tired physically and mentally. I am fed up of feeling so scared all the time and overwhelmed. I just want some time to myself, how the hell am I going to be able to wait 6 more weeks to have a proper rest from this? Most fricking work companies are slowing down this time of year, mine are already thinking up more staff training and meetings (unpaid). I could cry, feel so drained and this isnt even the only issue I have to deal with. I drank too much wine last night and still have a hangover today. I have nobody. Feel so fricking alone and unappreciated.
