Yeah I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I never even get interviews. I don't live in a very populous place and It's all about who you know but I can't socialize at all. I have to put my sisters down as references (they have different last names.) Not even Walmart will take me apparently.

I checked that I was willing to do anything and that I would come in at any time they wanted.

Walmart app has that personality assessment, right? Maybe that is your issue. Be careful about what you pick, and make a decent resume. I mean, if you can pee test clean, you are probably fine for working at walmart.

I thought I did good on that though. I'm good for piss. I could make a resume I guess but it'd be pretty bare. The app didn't ask for one.

Can you go in and talk to someone at Walmart? Sometimes that personal touch helps.

Make sure you aren't just applying to places online. I heard a career counselor once say "If you're applying online, you might as well crumple up your resume and throw it in the trash."
So make sure you're going into these places in person with your resume, you will have a better chance that way. Drive around your town (or even the surrounding towns) and go into every business you might want to work at. Just hand them your resume, ask for any positions available, make sure they have your contact information, and keep doing this for hours, day after day until almost every business has your resume lol Eventually someone will be hiring. Make sure you tell your sisters to be prepared for a call, and if they ask "Do you know (your name)" make sure to tell them not to say "Oh yeah that's my sister." Make sure they just say "Yes she volunteered for me." or something

Not sure certain corporations accept non-online applications anymore. Even in walmart there is a machine they refer you to. I would agree with what the person said above. Find someone who is higher up and can vouch for you.

I was hoping the next time I see a "now hiring sign" I'd go in person. I don't even have a resume right now written up because I just don't see the point. There is nothing I can put down besides saying I have a high school degree. I tend to think the places I'm applying to are such low level stuff that a resume isn't required. I mean this is stuff 16 year olds do.

Should I be calling them? Be like- "hello, did you get my app online?" What's upsetting is how I am thinking of drinking to actually have the confidence to call up the walmart. How pathetic.

Resumes are always required. You need to put down volunteer work as experience, even being a "nanny" aka babysitting experience. You cannot get a job without a resume, anywhere, even if it's Mcdonalds.
No you do not wait to see a hiring sign, you need to go bring your resume into every business around town regardless if they are hiring or not.
No you don't call them and ask if they got your online app, they probably won't even see your online app because those don't work. You need to go in person.

I've gone to places in person in the past to do apps and they tell me to go do it online every-time. I end up like "oh" and then I just go home and do it online.

I don't have any experience at all. No volunteer experience or anything. I could just lie though. I think it's about how well you lie isn't it? I'm always so anxious to actually go into places too. Is why I haven't had a job or anything in the first place is anxiety issues.

Think of any volunteer experience related to your family, you can exaggerate or make certain things you did sound more professional and consistent.
Nanny = babysitting
Event planner = family events
Personal assistant = family help
Caregiver = family care
Gardener = gardening in family garden/friends
You have to make sure you state that its not paid work its just volunteering though, make sure that's clear.
But like those examples above, you can make anything into a skill on your resume. Ask your parents for some ideas if you can...think back to anything you've done in the past that can be incorporated somehow into a resume, even things you might have done in school like extra-curricular activities or even tutoring a classmate.

Also, you can always go out and get really solid volunteering experience anywhere you want. Like you can go volunteer at an animal shelter just taking care of the back house (feeding, cleaning kennels) for 2 hours a day for free, then after you have like 6 or more/less months of that, add it to your resume and you might even get a recommendation or a real reference.

I live in a small town, too, and in Oklahoma to boot. That giant sucking sound y'all hear in Texas? It's coming from Oklahoma, because in a lot of ways, this place sucks! LOL! In case you can't tell, I'm a Texan. LOL!

Anyway, I've had similar problems. When we first moved here four years ago, I got a job at Walgreen's. You can apply on a computer in the store if you want. There's an assessment you have to pass, but it's just basic customer service related stuff. Just think about how you would want to be treated while you're shopping there and choose the answer that reflects that and you'll do fine.

For me, it was only temporary until I saved up enough money to buy a car, then I quit to focus on treatment for my PTSD for about a year and then a couple of months ago, I applied at an employment service called Express and got a great job through them. I haven't officially been hired yet - I still have another month to go before my 90 days are up - but they really like me and I love working there.

Stay positive and things will work out for you as they did for me. It's hard, I know, but it will get better.

I think the answers I choose on those tests are fine. It seems like people think that because I can't get a job at Walmart I must be answering "I like to punch customers in the mouf." or something on the test. "I like to piss on customer's shoes when they come with a complaint." I'm answering just like any other good brown-noser would answer it. "The customer is always right!" " Stealing is wrong! I would never steal from the company."

I've gone to Staples back in my old hometown and they had that setup with the computer app in the store. Problem though, I was sweating so much. I sweat and my fingers kept slipping. Couldn't see straight. Probably a type of panic attack, I don't know.

Some places have the option of adding a resume while others don't even have that option.

I am not sure this would work for you, but here is an idea:
Start going into the Walmart on a somewhat regular basis - like once or twice a week. Just pick up small things. Say hello to everyone you see. The workers will start to recognize you. Try to make small talk, explain that you are new in the area and ask questions.

Employees get a bonus if they refer someone for a job. Ask one of the employees about working there. They might want to refer you for a job, even if they don't know you well, to get that bonus. You will still have to do the online stuff, but with the referral, the store manager will know to go look up your application. Otherwise, you are just one out of 100.

It just opened up, the Walmart, on the 21st so. I guess I can try shopping there some when I start to need food. It's closer than the Winco I usually go shopping at which is like 40 miles away.

Okay so I went. It felt very smothering. I nodded at the smoking guy outside. I was trying to return some pants but they didn't take them so.

I think I'm supposed to go to church. Maybe I can try going to church next Sunday.

Edit: I also went ahead and applied elsewhere. They asked for a resume which I went ahead and polished up some. I put down that I am a nice person. I also didn't bother to put down any references. I just went the pure honesty path with some humor.

I always put 'references available upon request' on my resume.

I'd be lying if I said that because I have no one I can really put down.

Do you have a family member with a different last name...do you have a previous teacher you can ask? Do you have a family friend you can use? Do you have a friend's parent you can use? The best option for you to do is to volunteer somewhere for just 1-4 hours a few times a week so that you can have something to put down on your resume and you will have a reference after that. Maybe you should look for a job after you volunteer somewhere for 6 months or a year?
