I've been wanting to do this for quite some time and I've never really asked how is it done? I want to live and work in Europe, my primary reason being that I want to live somewhere where I come in contact with as many languages as possible in one place, and at the same time not have the same culture that is here in the US. My hope has been to live in France for longer than a year ( I speak French). I just want a completely new and different experience than what I have had at present.

greetings from europe well i think the easiest way is to marry someone from other country, or you can get working visa or something like that. Many languages in one place ? I'd say london uk, there you can meet many immigrants from a whole world. Many goes there without even knowing basic english and talk mostly in own language. France is beautiful, been there years ago and i can recommend especially french food but like every country, it has good and bad sides. I think you should go to europe for a trip for week or two, see with your own eyes how everything looks, how people are, and then decide where you would like to move and if you could live with cultural differences

I spent a month in the UK years ago, and came back for another two week jaunt, this time around I fell in love with Europe. I'm going back again next year to Italy, I want to experience living someplace that doesn't speak my native language. I'm an (amateur?) linguist, and I enjoy studying how language and culture moves around from place to place and how everything is related. Marriage isn't out of the question I just gotta know them first .

That sounds so exciting!!! I envy you. I would be too scared to try it. Of course, I only speak English, too, so that would be limiting.

Fleury29 so for now you could check how to get visa and work permit the biggest problem would be get a job imo. Europe got a big problem with lack of working places, lots of unemployed people in every country.

I suppose I could test out how things will go with the Italy trip, if that goes well, as far as language I'll figure something out. A friend of mine said I could live in a hostel for free if I didn't mind working there for the rent. Wouldn't mind it myself, but I'd have to find a place I liked. I'm normally not very adventurous but there are things I don't mind experiencing and for those you need just a dash of it.
