I'm sorry that you got stuck with unhelpful parents. Mine are like that too, for the most part. It's really hard, and kind of puts you at a disadvantage. I'm sorry... I guess the only hopeful, positive thing I can say is that it forces you to be independent and learn to take care of yourself. Which probably doesn't sound that great, but... there it is.
As far as how people pay the bills when they're looking for work... I've been unemployed a few times. Sometimes, if you're let go (and were previously employed), you can get unemployment, which helps you survive until the next job. Once you start working, you should try to put some money in an "emergency fund", so that you can pay your bills even if you're without a job for several months. Some people will move back in with family, or live with a boyfriend or girlfriend. (I lived with my boyfriend after college while I looked for a job, because I couldn't bear the thought of moving back in with my crazy family.) Some people get cash off their credit cards (which is expensive!). Once you've been working and have some money in a retirement account, some people (in an emergency) will take money from that (bad idea, but if it's an emergency, it may be the best option). Some people will borrow money against a home, if they have equity in it. So, there are some ideas... unfortunately, most of them really don't work when you're just starting out, and don't have anything saved up yet. Good luck, I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope something good turns up soon! |
