I care too much about my work. And now I think of it, that's actually a very common problem.
What's the cure?

For me lifestyle changes fit big in my recovery hopes..
I have to watch what I eat because foods I eat can stabilize my moods or exaggerate them. A high protein low carb diet with snacks or meals every 3-4 hours will over time reduce my swings. I also avoid alcohol and recreational drugs because those can really increase depression. Other lifestyle changes that help me are doing yoga, exercises, mindfulness, calm music, and being active on Psych Central.

What I hate is that I care more about work than work cares about me.

I too care too much about work. It hasn't been so bad recently, as I was offered and accepted a new job in another department, but before this it seemed like I cared more about what happened and how things got done than the owner's son (I work at a small, family owned grocery store). It's so frustrating.

I also have this problem. Working as a contractor instead of a regular employee has helped, somewhat. I also try to stop myself when I catch myself in the act of thinking about work in a way I shouldn't. It's an uphill struggle...

I'm not sure it's a bad thing to care too much... many of us spend a huge part of our life working. The bad comes in when you are struggling for some reason at work and that can take a terrible toll on you. Time to find a new place to spend a huge part of your life.
You can not change anyone you encounter. You can either manage how things affect you or you can look for a different job. I stayed way too long at some positions. I give to much of the best of me to not have some mutual respect and sense of accomplishment. I have those friends that family life is their everything. They may not be as concerned with a job that they the can just tolerate - their most important values are outside the workplace.
