Every day, my boss lectures me on my job, which I have been doing for more than 7 years in this location. She, meanwhile, has been here about nine weeks.
It's simply weird that she feels the need to "inform" me about the theory of my profession in general, and my job in detail. It's as if she has no clue about my accomplishments in this organization -- or in the world in general. Her tone is creepily patronizing -- schoolmarmish and didactic and she goes on and on. Yesterday, we had a two-hour meeting in which she was holding forth. Meanwhile, I'm falling behind on the tasks that are looming in my schedule. How to handle this one? I'm thinking of saying, "You know, I'm thinking I have a handle on the framework of my job. Can we concentrate on the practicalities of what's ahead of us on the calendar?" The truth is, I'm probably going to be giving my notice soon, but this is seriously driving me nuts. What do you think of me interrupting her? It's hard to get a word in edgewise but I need to finish certain tasks before I go. And until I actually nail down another opportunity (I'm a finalist somewhere else and will quit even if I don't get the job), I have WORK to do! Can I stop her condescending lectures? She may not even be aware that she is wasting my time -- and hers! |

What do the other coworkers say? The DON has these meetings that last forever and we need to get things going. Call bells are ringing. It's a whole different department for her and us. It's frustrating I feel she doesn't understand. But I get she's supposed to be on top of us performing well etc. But that department is going through a serious power trip. I don't want to work in a toxic environment! Please let her know make a appointment when she's free to discuss your concerns and how long it's been going on. That's what I would do

The others were just hired...by her. They seem very shut down and intimidated. I think I am going to make an appointment to say something...

Can you bring a little tape recorder to work, and when she starts, turn it on and say "Wait, a minute, please. I don't want to miss a word"?
Since you are considering leaving, I think that is worth a shot. |

Two hours??? You ask her how to code that time for your timesheet - for the last meeting, and the next time she goes over 5 minutes! Also ask her what / where is the WRITTEN agenda for this meeting - you need one to prepare your minutes correctly afterwards.
No wonder i kept getting fired ![]() |
