Scizophrenia for example. I know someone who is schizophrenic and hears voices, hallucinates, and all that stuff and they are having trouble finding a job and may be homeless soon. He is not violent and is not prone to outbursts or anything but lacks the ability to connect and communicate on a basic level. Kinda fear for their safety and putting them in a mental hospital is not an option. Advice?

Also, have a sibling who mentioned one day while drunk at a party that he has pedophilic/ephebophillic thoughts. I always wondered why he was never able to hold a job, and when I heard that it kinda made sense. He's always been a recluse, staying out of trouble. But now he might be evicted soon and I just kinda feel like it's not a good thing for many reasons that they become homeless and are out wandering around. For their safety and the safety of others.

So I've been looking online to find a jobs that they could do and haven't had much luck at all, especially regarding my kid bro. The only reason I'm helping him is he has sacrificed a social life and career to stay out of trouble, which is admirable IMO. He controls his actions and probably shouldn't suffer for it. But it's very easy to out pedophiles in the workplace, especially any job where he would potentially be in the position. Not to mention the fact that his presence would probably cause tensions between him and most any co-workers and employers.

So I'm coming here in hopes that someone might have some advice?

sounds like you feel responsible for your friends, sounds harsh but they are responsible for finding themselves jobs.

True, there is only so much I can and will do to help, but I'm also kinda just interested in knowing if there are any jobs with a living wage that someone with either of those illnesses could realistically do. Because I 've been thinking on it for weeks and haven't found any potential jobs at all. It's gotta suck to be in that situation.

probably best for them to get employment help from a disability employment center. there are jobs they can do, but the truth is, employers have biases and judgments and are not likely to hire people like that. i am not saying it is fair or right, but it is true.

i am not sure i can ever work again, even if i get to a place where i can actually work...

but agencies know about what to do. and, yes, you cant fix it.

peer support work might be an option

going back to college another

depends what interests them and what training they have already, and what training they might like to do.

Depending on where you are there are organizations that help mentally, and intellectually disabled people find jobs and help with coaching them and other services. It may worth checking in to.

A person such as you have just described would be eligible for the maximum amount of support that society offers. I'm glad that you are concerned for this person's safety because that is what is most important. A person who cannot "communicate on a basic level" is going to have a hard time being employed at anything. Ask yourself who knows about this person's situation besides you. If the answer is that no responsible person does know, then I would urge you to call Adult Protective Services in your community. (Every community has access to some such agency.)

They would need the person's name and address and a description of the problem, as you see it. I don't think you even have to give your own name, if you would prefer not to. Then they would send out a social worker to check on this individual. The social worker would hook that person up to appropriate help.

Sometimes, severely incapable persons do not want help. In that case, homelessness can be the result, and not much can be done about it.

If the person is receptive to being helped, they can often be assisted to stay in an apartment, with a social service agency checking on them regularly. In some cases, the person is placed in a "group home" that is staffed by trained personnel who provide around the clock supervision and assistance.

Putting people in "mental hospitals" is only a last resort for when a person is in danger of hurting themself, or completely unable to cope and needs evaluation. Even then, it's usually a short-term placement, while something more permanent is arranged.
