Is it possible to work on disability? I need distraction from my thoughts. Yet physically I can't work enough to live and afford medication. Which causes more stress and anxiety! Frustrated!

Hello Callmetrouble: I don't know the answer to your question. But I saw no one had replied to your post. So I thought I would. Hopefully other members who are more knowledgeable than I will yet reply. My impression is that you can. But there are limits & it's not always clear-cut what you can & cannot do. It seems as though it can be complicated. But, there again, that's just my impression.

You can work while on disability. The last time I checked the amount was somewhere around $800 a month. I would call you local social security office and request the information in writing. When you begin working, and periodically, you may have to report earnings to SSDI so they know you aren't making more than you're allowed.
But yes, you can work part-time on disability. Seesaw

You can work part-time on disability. I have done it here and there. Here in new York I think it's like $1000 or something. I have to doublecheck.

okay SSDI yeah you can but I don't understand it. I was just rejected and they said that they realize I can't do the work I used to do so if I can work a different type of job that is a % of what you used to make but this was just the first step. I think it's wierd you can work but you say you can't when we apply

According to SSA you may not work while on disability UNLESS you enter an approved return to work program which, once completed, you will be expected to leave disability (SSD), and continue working. If your well enough to work for the 9 month program you are not sick enough for being considered total disability.
for SSI, yes, you can work but must discuss with SSA first. |
