Hi, I'm having a lot of trouble at work. My coworkers talk about me and report me to the manager all the time. The last time was for "zoning out". Apparently I had a blank stare and seemed spaced out. My manager was notified and had to talk to me and then listed a bunch of other stuff I do wrong. She said a customer complained I didn't respond when she was speaking to me. She asked what was wrong with me that I'm spacing out. She is always having a problem with me. My coworkers have stopped talking to me and now talk amongst themselves and totally leave me out and I stand all alone all day (I work in retail). It's all too much stress which is bad for me too. I wonder if I should just quit working and fille for disability. This has become to much stress. I'm being harassed I feel by the manager and have gone to hr but nothing. She always gives me negative feedback.... nothing positive. Have been there 8 months.

This sounds like a toxic work environment and I'm sorry you have to go through this. If you have gone to HR and nothing has been done then perhaps you could take your complaints higher up, or cut your losses and look for another job that isn't toxic. Being the brunt of gossip is never fun and can totally ruin the atmosphere of a job. You deserve a better work environment!
Thanks for this!

If you are zoning out to the point that even a customer noticed it enough to complain to the manager, it sounds like you really aren't doing very well. Is the zoning out related to side effects of your medication? Perhaps you need to talk to your doctor about that and see if any adjustments can be made. Being able to function and interact with customers effectively is really important in retail work.

Is there any truth to what's being reported to you, though? Do you have a seizure disorder that they might need to know about or is your mind elsewhere while you're working?

Your co-workers don't seem at all concerned about you so I wouldn't want to be a part of that crowd especially if they gossip all the time. HR is there to protect the company if you over them then hr will find away to get rid of you. If you can start with your personal care physician have you had your hearing tested there are auditory disorders sometimes confused with ADHD. When you have a year in u can get FMLA if your full time. I have empathy for u it's lonley and causes anxiety before going into work. Maybe look at another dept of the store, where you work more independent. Theres too much of this abuse in the workplace . Hang in there

My depression and anxiety make me zone out and have the "blank stare" pretty frequently. No one has said anything about it, because it's not hurting anyone in my job. But I try to just walk around and look busy when it happens. It sucks that they're gossiping about you. I have a sort of toxic working environment, so I can relate a little. My only advice is to not take what's going on at your work to be about you, it's about them and the way they're handling it. All you can control is how you handle it and how much you're willing to take from them before you find another job.
Thanks for this!

This sounds similar to a situation I was in. I was bullied at a job I was at for 4 years. HR did nothing and they tried to get me in trouble all the time. Management even turned against me. I eventually quit cause I couldn't take it anymore. I now am on disability because I cannot handle work environments and work place politics. If it can't be resolved I suggest leaving that job.

I completely understand gossiping co-workers. I live in Arkansas. I swear it is all they know. AND, being a person who would rather stay to themselves, they "know" a lot about me and spread it around. For example...I had NO IDEA I had slept with so many men!!! The truth is I have no history in this town because I arrived married and have done nothing but work since, and I don't associate with but 3 people who are also not from here. I don't feel "bullied," other people don't bother me that much. People are A-holes, dear...there isn't much you can do about them.

This is just no right, because you have mental illness, you have no rights, other disabilities does. Gossip about me, went as far, by calling me pregnant, I was told person at work, was sorry, so hell with me. Legal help is required,
