So over the holiday weekend i was having trouble logging in remotely to work, which i needed to do because my supervisor did not give me enough lead time to finish my self appraisal as part of our annual review process.

i got locked out of my account and emailed the hr person, not knowing if she would respond or not. She did respond and sent me the on-call number for our tech consultant. So I was able to finish the appraisal, which took a full 8 hours. My boss had demanded the pre-appraisals be done by the 5th, so I saw no other choice than to work on it over the holiday weekend, which would not be the first time I've had no choice but to work through a holiday weekend.

So this afternoon she sends me an email telling me to stop texting or calling co-workers after hours or during vacations or weekends as it's both inconsiderate and disrespectful. I'm just baffled. During the season, we all are working during the weekend so we all communicate during weekends and off hours. Furthermore, it's a culture that is promoted by our CEO who catches up on all his emails at midnight and sends out a slew of emails.

I spend alll my time in the office in meetings that i really don't need to be in, which means I ALWAYS have to work from home after hours to get proposals submitted and bring money in.

And two weeks ago when I took two PTO days to be sick, my assistant director texted and called me a few times about stuff that she could have just asked someone else. Yet, I am the one who is inconsiderate and disrespectful?

They are just grabbing at any little straw to document a pattern of me not getting along with colleagues. And of course, when they mention these problems, there is never a specific situation mentioned. And next week I'm goign to make her give me a specific situation in which I emailed or texted after hours that it out of line with what the entire rest of the organization does.

The thing is, I did text two co-workers who I'm close with today as i'm preparing an advance psychiatric medical directive and need to list a few people who will agree to take care of the boys for a couple of days in the case of an emergency. Although that was during work hours, so i don't see how that was being disrespectful or inconsiderate, especially when I'm texting a FRIEND about a matter between FRIENDS.

The other thing is that with emails, after she complained about something similar a couple of weeks ago, i started delaying all emails i sent her until 10am the next morning or until a later date when it was time to discuss it. That way I wouldn't forget to email her about it, and she wouldn't get mad that i had sent her an email about something two weeks from now.

The EEOC charge was filed today. So I guess it's time for the big guns to come out. And for me to find a new job, lolz.

It just doesn't make any sense to me why she would chastise me for something that is totally ingrained in company culture and that everyone does.

Ug! Just when I think I can start handling things there again, some new poo hits the fan.

It just feels to me like when a company targets any employee they just start saying that everything you do is wrong. They get this attitude like you are the worst and they start picking on you... called "mobbing" I think. Then when it comes time for the law suit they pull these things out as the "legitimate non discriminatory reason" you were fired. Sadly it works.
Thanks for this!

I realise that the rules in the US are very different from where I live in England, but what is the maximum time off sick that you can take on full pay? Would it be worth taking this, in a way that doesn't put you in a tricky position with a new employer, and using that time to find a new role? Or would you consider something that includes accommodation, like working at a college or an environmental type of job? I have been in your shoes, with institutional bullying, and my heart goes out to you. I wish I could do more to help.
Thanks for this!

I work in HR and I've seen this happen with managers before. Once a manager decides they don't want to have someone working with them for *whatever reason*, they will start documenting all the little things that they normally wouldn't care about in order to build a case for a termination. Unfortunately, there is nothing legally to prevent them from doing this. Document as much of this experience as you possibly can, especially if you intend to file for unemployment. In circumstances like this, I definitely recommend waiting for them to let you go. It will help your case in the unemployment process and puts them in a defensive position if you do proceed with a lawsuit.

Good luck!

What's crazy is that everyone in the company does this, and I cam prove it. It's truly ridiculous.

I get emails at 3am from our CEO. I mean, it's really grasping at straws. Anyways, as soon as I'm back in the office I'm filing a grievance against her. Because the only two texts I sent were to people I consider friends and I was asking them to call me later because I neede s to discus my advance psychiatric medical directive with them. So yeah, she's gonna feel stupid when she finds that out.

Well I left a job because of a hostile employee. I signed on the sick so I didn't have to deal with the dole office/job centre. They crack down on all the wrong people. Why are people like single mothers relying on food banks??? God I am so mad.
But I decided with my free time, as I do not have a plan till next February where I complete my course, that I would access my medical files as my friend has done the same. I knew this was the next step in taking the steering wheel.
I am hoping that me being signed off, that this will not lead to an objection. They should know by know that this girl won't take things lying down.
Thing is no-one expected this of me. I was just one of those who gave people the benefit of the doubt, wanting to be seen as a respectable hard working young woman, making my family proud. Yet somehow, they found a way to push the wrong buttons....

Does your email system allow you to schedule when you send emails? Like keep them in draft mode and then when you schedule, they all go out? If so, I'd schedule every single email in the future to be between business hours M-F only.

I mean, it's clear you're being targeted/singled out. I left a really good job because I was being trained by a person who was quite clearly out of her mind and had temper tantrums every single day and when I filed an unemployment claim they actually had an attorney show up for the telephone hearing and I of course was denied my claim. I'm still paying for it today, because I've had to get 2 jobs to make up the income.
