. After being out of work for 4 years. I'm so proud of myself. I applied for 2 pt cleaning jobs, and a job at an apple farm (I talked to someone there, who didn't seem interested in hiring me, but whatever).

I am not sure what to say about why I've been out of work so long. It's due to my disability, mental health. And complacency. I've been wanting to work since last year actually. I have been volunteering for 6 months. I'm just not sure how to explain 2 long job absences. I have a spotty job history due to mental health and being on disability.

I do have a plan though. I am exploring interests, and think I might go back to trade school for office technology. I'm also interested in working with my hands, and body, very much. My goal is to work full time. Become independent. I need money.

You go! Working at an apple farm sounds like a fun way to get back to work

I had an interview yesterday for one of the cleaning jobs. It went well. I am so depressed today though. My life sucks and I don't trust myself to show up consistently if I do get the job because I tend to have issues with showing up. I just really want independence from my ****ing parents house.

I can understand your concern, attendance was an issue for me at my previous jobs as well. I think finding a job I don't mind doing made a big difference, I used to work in the food industry and briefly tried cleaning but they both stressed me out or bored me to tears, which caused me to call in far too often.

Find a job you don't mind or even one you like. For me it was stocking items at a large store because it's active and there is always something to do. For you it may be something you didn't expect. Good luck.

Thank you Scaredandconfused. If I do get this job, I might at least try it out.

Yay you! Applying is half the battle. I'm also on disability right now, and although it's nice getting "free money", it's not enough to live on and be independent!

If a potential employer asks about a gap in your history, you could say that you were taking a break and figuring out what you wanted to do with your life. You can even lie and say you were taking classes or travelling!

Why do you think you have issues showing up? Are you afraid you're going to fail, so you'd rather fail intentionally (by not showing up)?

I totally hear you on the parents thing! I don't live at home anymore, but I'm still financially dependent and it SUCKS because they feel they can control you.
