I know there’s always room for improvement and I will keep trying... but it’s so discouraging to receive yet more negative feedback no matter how much I work at something.

We received yet another bad internal audit. Almost everybody was named as needing improvement... except the one person who never does their job oddly enough. That doesn’t make sense to me and feels awfully demoralizing...

I’ve been staying late... coming in some Saturdays... I was sure all my stuff was looking good... Yet no, I need to do more. Just feeling really, really discouraged.

On the “positive” side... I’ve grown accustomed to negative feedback. It doesn’t upset near as much as it used to. I expect it now and I just keep making the changes that are recommended. I am noticing my own improvements and will continue to do my best.

I’ve built some resilience in all of this. But at the same time I feel a sense of hopelessness and have grown to really hate coming to work. I keep a smile on my face though and I continue to be as friendly as I can. Nobody knows how much I hate the place.

You should never have to become accustomed to negative feedback.
it sounds to me like somebody's greasing the wheels under the table.
Do the best you can so that you can sleep good at night.
If that's not good enough for them then they don't deserve you.

Thank you. Good point about getting a good night’s sleep. The place is not healthy and I’m just waiting to get out of here. I have put in a transfer request. I have lost trust and faith in most people after going through all of this.

I have total faith in the people I work with.
It saddens me that you had this experience. May the time pass quickly till you get to something better!

Thank you. You’ve given me some good thoughts to contemplate.
Thanks for this!

I know the feeling and am sorry you are going through this. I think you responded my thread where some of us are going through a similar situation with my boss. She is never happy with anything.

It definitely is not healthy to deal with. It is very discouraging dealing with constant criticism and nothing positive. It sounds like trying to get a transfer is a good course to take. I am keeping an eye out for other opportunities in my company as well. People in other areas seem happier and stick around longer.

Best of luck!

Thank you Rechu. The only thing to do is find a way out of situations like this. It can really take a toll mentally and emotionally.

What is up with that? One of the more recent people to quit worked in the same sector as me. Our boss always held her up as the best thing ever, like she walked on water and could do no wrong. Now that she's no longer around, I am dealing with some things she was the last person to update. I am finding some major mistakes that I need to clean up. Really, basic things too that she should have known. Our boss loves the editor too, but she's not so perfect either since didn't catch the mistakess either.

It is irritating and very demoralizing.

Demoralizing is right. It’s seems that if you make friends with the boss you don’t have to work. Being friendly is more valued and it doesn’t make sense to me.

Exactly. It's interesting, though, it wasn't like this when I started. The people in the department seemed more mature and focused on doing their work rather than participating in popularity contests.

The only other person in the department (apart from my boss) who has been here for over a year, who is also the only person in the department I actually like, says that in the office it feels like junior high all over again. I am a bit removed from that since I work from home, but since I am not in the boss' favorites club it still affects me.

I would love to work from home and get away from the office crap. I have fought hard against the popularity contest crap though. I don’t care if I’m not the popular one but I won’t be walked on. I tend to push back after I’ve had enough. I also CYA in everything I do.
