do we have to explain that we have mental illness when we apply MSc or PhD?

I want to apply in normal ways & standards. but I am unsure whether I have to explain that I have mental ilness.I contacted to peking university for their short term program only,and received negative resonse when I said that I have had schizophrenia illness.

by the bye I am unsure that I am schizphrenia because this consists of only reports,but here; the health services are very very unqualified in especially psychiatry.

You do not have to tell anyone anything is the short answer.

To me, it feels like that if folks know that sometimes that ain't you, they seem a little more tolerant than when they have that revelation.

hi thank you for your this response. I am probably an unvarying one because I have been contacting with reputable universities and surely would study at some of them.

but as I overviewed, some of them are explaining that applicants have to explain their disables/disorders. I do not remember clearly but probably cambridge or oxford is such ones.

I need any official explanation / comment.(reference would be very very good)

No, but if you start to struggle sometimes it's necessary to share stuff with your supervisor, I'm 'having' to because it's all too much for me right now (I mean it's still my choice but it feels necessary)

different locations different rules....

example I live in the USA here we do not have to disclose our mental illnesses for work or school or anything else if we dont want to. we have privacy laws here that say they cant even ask about it.

but other countries may have different rules requiring full mental and physical health history.

since you are in china you may want to contact your or a mental health treatment provider in your location, they will be able to tell you what they had to do, to become a treatment provider and if the process there includes having to disclose mental health history.

also not sure about your location but some countries it isnt up to the general population what their careers are. some their government and job/ employment agencies determine that. if you are in one of these countries maybe talk with those in charge of choosing who gets to be in what careers and let them know you are interested in the mental or physical health field. they will let you know if the programs have any openings and whether your mental problems disqualify you or not.

no,I am not from china. I only do not want to explain it. I know three languages and would learn chinese as a fourth one. but they prerejected it.

No. Why would you disclose your mental health diagnosis on an academic program application, especially if you don't have an official diagnosis yet. Universities don't require that information.
