I’ve been working at this school for 2 years as an assistant teacher. I am chewed out heavily for any mistake I make despite them being rare and small ones. I have chronic health problems as well and my boss has been extremely rude several times when it comes to me having to take a sick day/being hospitalized. She even gave me a hard time about having to get a major surgery that I put off for 1 year due to work and told me how it was bad timing/tried to pressure me to coming into work after 2 days.
Well today I think I’ve absolutely had it. I had to take over for a class because a teacher had to suddenly step out and am supposed to take another class out for aftercare. I asked one of my supervisors if she could just take the other class out until I finish getting them to their parents/speak to parents (it would have only taken me 10 min). Well my manager came in and started yelling, “You’re supposed to be in the class at 3 each day!” While clapping her hands in my face in between each word. This is the first time I’ve ever made this mistake. I apologized and tried to apologize once more later on, just for her to continuously tell me how she explicitly told me to do so(she didn’t) and thought I would use better judgment to figure it out. I’m helping out this whole week by working 10 hour shifts(no lunch break) despite still being slightly fresh out of a surgery/recovering. I’m finding her behavior very childish and insulting to be clapping her hands in my face/insulting my judgement based on a mistake despite apologizing twice. I’m constantly working overtime and working from home on my time off with 0 appreciation. If you were in my position, would you resign or speak to your manager about it? I should also mention, I don’t think she speaks to anyone as poorly as me since I am the youngest by quite a lot in this job. I feel like I’m her punching bag whenever she’s stressed or mad. |

That is verbal abuse. There are laws against abusing anyone in a work environment....unsafe working conditions. I would speak to the manager.

I agree with nicoleflynn. She may reprimand you but yelling or clapping her hands in your face is abusive, intimidating behavior. I would make a formal report to the district or HR. At the very least, if she does it again, I would tell her to stop. She can correct you without being hostile.
