I usually just grab the change & receipt & stuff them into my pocket & never look at it...I should in case it is short, but I don't. so I wouldn't notice the extra $$. the only times I stop at mcdonalds is if I am on my break from work & then time is of the essence and I just want to get food & get back to work so I can eat quickly, or if I am travelling and then I have a drooling dog trying to get to what ever I just bought so then I really just grab the change & stuff it somewhere so I can then find a safe place for the food :-) ….so yea I never look at the change...even from the grocery store sometimes I wrap the receipt around the change & tuck it in my pocket. sometimes i'll have like 3 receipts in there.

i'm one of those people
Thanks for this!

I had a teacher in high school who said she was given an extra $20 when she was checking out at Nordstroms at Christmas time and her exact words were “I took the money and ran”

I accidentally came out about 30 short once in a grocery store in the 90's. It was the quick change people. So, I educated myself in what and how they did it. They tried me again a few days later. My drawer was almost 60 ahead that night and they had the people that ripped me off the day before at the service desk because the idiots went to complain. I gave a note to another cashier as soon as they left my register to call management and tell them. Management called cops and they picked them up.

curious as howyou would be 60 ahead.

Someone once gave me too much.i realised and called him back and returned it

I worked out what happened and i tried it in a shop to see if it would work. it did and i got too much change. i gave it back as i was only interested to see if it would work

To keep it would be a low life thing to do

trying to be rude to you on purpose? no. not at all. honestly I barely pay any consequence to your posts to really don't flatter yourself. as for "liking" you I don't know other then seeing you as someone who posts to forums. I notice you complain much about your work situation and that's about it.

if you read where I posted it was someone else who posted "what a horrible person" and that is what I responded to. I find the whole conversation about how disgusting the person was who got the extra money fairly interesting since it was NOT the point of the original poster and I wonder just how really righteous everyone is in real life. it is easy to be so on an anonymous post..not so in real life when someone hands you free cash or product. what if you got handed an extra sandwich? would you return that? drive away and circle back?

so no, don't flattern yourselfn that I spend time figuring out things to flame you. doesn't happen. I don't really care enough.

Once while working retail I didn't give a customer enough change. Now that made the customer mad. He paid with a $50 and I realized it later that I had thought it was a $20. These mistakes are easy to make.

Plus, seriously--who pays with an $100 at a fast-food restaurant? What does a burger cost--like 5 dollars maximum? Even if your order was a high total, like in the twenty or thirty range, I feel like this customer was extremely inconsiderate by paying with that large of a bill. Management should understand that. I know you have to do things the right way at fast-food joints--I worked at one. However, there's a certain line you have to draw.

I don't care who you are, but that's not a good practice. It's unfair to the employees.

I know this may not be a popular opinion, but I think the customer is more at fault than you. And management might be at fault as well. There are some laws in place also that don't even allow customers to even pay with $50 or $100 bills (at CERTAIN retail stores). So to take it out of your paycheck would be extremely wrong in my opinion. I'm not a lawyer, but that makes my blood boil.

I understand you've had problems with your employer in the past. Just remember that you're doing a good job in trying to help yourself and rectify these problems.

If management talks to you about it again, just stay level-headed and calm about it, but apologize. Say you're sorry and that it won't happen again. I understand that you need to keep this job. So be serious and try to correct your error. And then don't let it happen again. It's as simple as that.

I just feel mad when management is taking it out on you. That does not mean you can get mad at management though, just to be clear. But show them through your actions that you're responsible and up to the task.

Discriminated for what? I still have this job. My only consequence is paying back the $91 and not handle cash on drive thru anymore. I'm still allowed to cash out on front counter where it's less stressful lol.

I took the hundred they gave me, and made incorrect change. I had remembered them. I slammed the drawer closed, said oops, and let them go talk to a manager. I deliberately cheated them, and winked when I did. I remembered how badly they made me feel before and noticed they were trying it again. "Give me 4 twenties and..., Oh wait, I need some fives and singles. No no, that's not what I told you at first." Those people. If anything, the manger would, and did, have to count the register. I was a lot braver back then, being 17 and not caring what anything meant to anyone, but not wanting anyone to get screwed over at the same time. They got three fives and some singles only that day. I was scolded for doing that, but not written up

Customers have rights to pay with whatever bills they please. Nothing inconsiderate about it

I live in a very structured budget, all my bills are auto pay that can be.. I have stopped using my bank card for gas as my area has been getting over run with skimmers on pumps, so I use cash , I have a rough idea about how much I need per month for gas.

So today for instance. My husband is in the hospital and asked for a milkshake I hit the drive thru and I only had a hundred dollar bill ...of COURSE I used it. Why wouldn’t I ???! The money on my bank card was already ear marked for bills xyz. Money is money and as long as paper money is being circulated I will spend whatever size bill I want.

My daughter while in high school had a friend working in fast food and her drawer came up short 50+ and it was deducted from her next paycheck.

It only takes a few seconds to double count change.

This is a huge learning experience for Ruby, I’m sure she will be more careful in the future.

it's like paying for a large order with small bills...why wouldn't you? currency is currency. pennies work too. if you don't like what I am using then you can feel free to use your $$ to pay my bill.

or even writing a check. it's slow but still valid (not at drive thru's but still at regular registers in some places)
Thanks for this!

I been back on drive thru multiple times and haven't been short since. I had managed to convince half the ppl who tried to pay with $100 or $50 to either pay with smaller bill or a credit card. FTW
