With the last recruiter I spoke with, I made a big mistake and spoke TOO much and gave TOO much detail around the layoff, which may have hurt me. He asked if anyone else was laid off due to COVID aside from me. And I said NO, which looks suspect or bad for me. Two people in fact had been laid off before me and before COVID. It's only a 22 person company, so they cannot afford to lay off many people at once. Next time, if the same question is asked of me, I am going to say that others were laid off before me and that the company has been struggling for some time.

Ugh. Live and learn!

I am speaking to another recruiter this morning.

Best of luck with the next interview! I do the same thing, say something I haven't meant to in an interview in the moment then realise after but at least you are aware of what you should say next time!

WOW. So I am blown away. My most difficult client approached me and offered me a recommendation on LinkedIn. I know they were very happy with my work and with me, but it was a very pleasant surprise when they both reached out to me after I was laid off to offer their help and assistance. One of them wrote a glowing recommendation/review on my LinkedIn profile, which I am most happy about, and the other offered to provide a reference, if needed.

This reminds me of when I was a waitress, and how those who gave me the hardest time also gave me the biggest tips. Funny how that works.

I am meeting my CEO for lunch today. I sooooooo wish I could be upfront and transparent with him about what happened with my boss. I wish I could say, you know, I know there were difficulties between me and my boss and perhaps that made it more difficult to keep me on or to promote me. BUT I CANNOT SAY ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't want to taint his glowing reference for me for any future job opportunities, and I don't want to indirectly be telling him that he wasn't entirely honest with me.

So I have to keep my mouth shut, brush everything under the rug and pretend that it wasn't an issue.

That sucks because I am SO honest and SO forthcoming. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I hate pretending ,and I hate playing political games. But that's what this is.

I hope this goes well.

It’s also quite the drastic change- to go from working with my colleagues every day for two years to suddenly being told you’re being let go and there’s no chance for goodbyes.

I texted a few co workers to say farewell last night. The only other female on my team was sad to see me go. She and I really got along. A female director offered me her reference, which was nice.

And my CEO said he can introduce me to some people for potential employment.

I know I wasn’t happy working there but it still stings. You work hard for a company, and it’s like a slap in the face.

I put on a good front when HR and the CEO told me they were letting me go. I remained very professional. I still wanted certain work I had done to be sent to my clients to wrap up. Even while being laid off I wanted to finish my work. Crazy.

I don’t know. It sucks, bottom line. So today I’m indulging and am staying in bed.
It is normal to feel this way. You just lost your job unexpectedly.

Thank you @Buffy01. And sorry for the delayed response. I took a break from PC for a while.

It's been nearly 2 months since I was laid off. I've been on unemployment benefits for one month. My severance pay lasted one month.

I've basically been taking a vacation while applying for at least 1 job per week. I've gone to the beach once a week, and I've collected myself. I needed some serious down time after my last work experience to bring my mental health back to a better level.

And I do feel better now. This time has been beneficial for me. For a while, I was scared to return to work right away due to my fear of facing yet another toxic work environment. And I was angry about what had happened at my last job.

Now I am ready to turn my attention more seriously to the job search. I may take some webinars to refresh my knowledge and skills - freebie ones, of course, because I have very little funds from unemployment.

I am ready to put my last job behind me and move on. So that's good. I am glad and grateful that I've had this time to regroup.
