Does anyone here work as a peer support specialist? Any advice you can give me? I'm starting training in March.

I'm especially looking for advice on getting a job.

Hi KD1980,

I haven't done much since I completed my training, mostly because of COVID, but I did Family/Peer Support Specialist Training through NAMI. Who are you doing the training with? Usually part of the program is to help put you in a position.

Can you check with them to see if they have placement services? If they don't, check with your NAMI affiliate to see if they can recommend or connect you to organizations that are hiring.

Definitely. I was also looking for advice on what to expect from the job, and ways to be more helpful to people I'll be working with.
