Sobrierty has made me useless

So now that I'm sober I can't do anything other than watch movies and I have a LOT to do.

I'm confused. You would think you would have more time on your hands to become a workahollic.

I can't be creative anymore and I can barely do anything, I know that i'll be WAYYY more creative/productive after a year, but before the end of this year I have a LOT to do....

You have your creativity on a schedule? I would do learning/maintenance work on yourself and environment (food, shelter, clothing, relationships, etc.) so when your creativity becomes something you want to work with again you'll be more ready.

It's just that I have a lot of work/recording to do this summer and I can't afford to wait till I get better.

About two weeks...

keep doing things even though it may seem lifeless or emotionaless, the brain is working to function again with out the ''goodies'' it once had... its been rewired and needs some maintenance now, and by keeping up on doing things besides movies will help the process.. well wishes, dn't fel edefeated its probably part of the addiction takig as wel

Remember -- you're STILL just as talented as you were when you were using. You don't lose that. It's just we become almost "afraid" to let go -- we become inhibited. We're not the "free and easy" person we were when we were using/boozing.

Try playing "as if." n It CAN be done.

If you haven't gotten a sponsor yet, get one. They will be able to help you discover ways to stay intuned with your creative side without using.

I can relate to being bored without drinking since I'm pretty new to a sober life. I use to sing all the time when drunk and stopped when sober. I had a band for a bit too(years ago). I'd drink when performing because it masked my fear to be infront of large groups. Again I can relate to thinking my talent is gone, but it's not. For me after 97 days sober it's been the best choice of my life. Just take it one day at a time, one minute if 24 hours is too much. If you havent gotten a sponsor get one and start working the steps. That takes up some time plus it makes you think. Also go to meetings (if you don't already attend). I have two coffee commitments for two of my meetings. Try to get involved in the groups. It will certainly keep you busy and you'll make some great friends who can help...Remember a fear erased is a fear faced. Best wishes!

So you're saying what? You can't afford this year of sobriety? Then why aren't you making it more more productive via a recovery program?

You seem hooked on the concept that your creativity must have drugs to feed off of. You seem mentally addicted to that idea now and may need help getting beyond that--you've been posting the same thing for a bit now.

Do you want this to work? Do you want to get sober now? If you have all this recording to do and are so convinced that you cannot do the work sober, why make any attempt now at sobriety?

Do the recording. Then get sober, experience it, see how good it can be when you can give your whole self to it. You're of two minds now, you're frustrated--& you're losing out on everything. What a shame.
