Hello,

I put this thread here because in another section of the forum, I had no answer in 2 days.
To resume, I have a psychological problem with the internet forums.
Here where it started. In secondary 3 at school. I started to go on a weather forums and on sports forums and I liked that because I like to go on forums. I was named moderator on several forums. It didn't function really well because, in their opinion, I was not enough mature. In secondary 4, in the end of the year, I had a realization that the forums was taking too big part in my life and I stopped going on forums for 2 weeks to one month. Then, I returned back on the forums and I realized that the forums made me anxious. It is hard to tell how it made me anxious, but what I know, it is that I enjoyed less other aspects of my life when I go on the forums. But what I would like the most is that I go on the forums without the fact that I enjoy less other aspects of my life.

I likee to go on forums and I would like to go on forums without this psychological problem.

To give me a chance to explain all the things that I have to say, you can ask me questions, because I don't necessarly remember all of what I have to say.

Thanks and have a good night!

Do you have any expectations when you visit forums?

Yes, I do have some expectations. Like to want to involve myself in the forums (like being a moderator or other things like that).
I want to have some pleasure.

Could you precise your question please, because I am not sure of understanding completely?

So you hold yourself to a level of perfectionism on forums which is part of your anxiety maybe? You not only want to be a part of the community, you want to be a driving force in that community and feel like you are making a difference?

I think its good you feel that way but maybe you are trying to hard? Stop and smell the roses, get to know people, read their stories, let others make a difference in your life as well and get into the comradery of the forum. You dont have to be a moderator to make a difference just simply listening and understanding others means the world, especially on PC. Let yourself make mistakes, realize them, learn from the them, grow, etc.

I think i put that right...i hope i did

I have to agree. Before becoming a Moderator, you would HAVE to experience the forum itself -- the people, the problems, your own problems, etc. You would need to experience exactly how the forum works, why it works that way, etc.

I think becoming a part of the community would be important before even thinking of becoming a Moderator of any forum. One needs to know the people and how things work.

Best of luck and God bless! Hugs, Lee

@triciadrich: You are right, but also when I am just a member and not want to be a moderator, it does the same thing with my anxiety.
@Leed: Thanks!

do you know what you are actually anxious about in connection with forums?

knowing that might help you to reduce the anxiety
Thanks for this!

I don't really know what makes me anxious about the forums, but maybe it is because I want a level of perfectionnism like triciadrich said, but I don't know.

The moderators on PsychCentral are mostly administrators types who make sure me don't misbehave & treat each other well. We are well-behaved, of course.

If you're looking for a level of involvement that moves the Forums along and adds to the level of activity, I'd say be consistent in your posting and be as much as possible fact-based. Post often, whenever you have something of substance to add to a developing thread.

Most importantly, reply to that solitary, indefinite post that isn't too clear. Try to draw the person out by asking clarifying questions ... Inviting a further post and mort dialogue.

Is this something you'd feel comfortable doing?

Another reason you might be anxious on forums is if you're an introvert.

I'm an introvert, and while I enjoy forums and have been on several huge ones, I find it stressful as it's a lot like high school as far being somewhat of a popularity contest. Because I had some issues, I researched it, and came across an article talking about how introverts have a more difficult time on forums than extroverts.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
