Why is sobriety to you personally, and what has it done for you? Name 3 reasons please. I think even non addicts and alcoholics can say why they never decided to start too.

For me my sober date is 11/09/1990. first is the drugs and alcohol do not run my life. Second I was able to enter into college and gain a degree. third I have a family the respect me which includes 3 step children all grown now. All this I would not have been able to do. I keep the using of the mind altering substance in my mind to remember what I was like before AA/NA

I NEVER started drinking because......................

1.) I grew up in an alcoholic home and I know all to well of the devastating effects (on kids & adults)

2.) My niece (a second daughter to me) was killed on Christmas Eve by a drunk driver.... she was just 20 years old..... she had a HEART of GOLD.

3.) I was sexually abused for 10 years by a drunk..... I never want to be so drunk that I become evil.

1) I have amazing friends through the fellowship - friends who love me no matter what.

2) I don't wake up in the mornings wondering what I might have done the night before.

3) I have tools to deal with life now, instead of drinking it away.

#1 No more hangovers. I used to tell people who didn’t drink that I felt sorry for them. Because when they wake up in the morning, that is as good as they are going to feel all day.

#2 No more blue lights in my rear view mirror. No more trips to the gray bar motel, and no more being left cuffed in the back seat of the cruiser while the cops went for coffee.

#3 And my favorite. I would never have found a God of my understanding without my alcoholism, and the desperation it created. Thank God for AA, and thank AA for God.

On the road to the good stuff,
Richard

p.s.
hello back Raynaadi,
I have been workin’ too hard lately, I just need to keep first things first.

1. I am alive to this day. I would not be if I continued drinking and using hard drugs like I was.

2. I take full responsibility for what I do. No more blaming it on the drinking or drugs or other people. I choose what to do and the end result is of my own free will and I take the good with the bad.

3. I am able to sort out the different problems between mental health troubles and my addictions. Before they were all of one making but now I can work on each one seperately and in their own way.

4. Because I love being clean and sober, just an extra one here.

Allan

I'll have to change the question a little to make it more appropriate for me...

3 reasons why it is worth not using pot every day and hard drugs most every day...

1) because i wouldn't have gotten through university if i had done that. or if i had... i would have had very crappy grades lol.
2) because i don't have to worry worry worry about where that next high is coming from i actually enjoy life more instead of having a pattern of very very high very very low very very high very very low i enjoy a more moderate existence (and i'm very grateful i don't feel as low as i used to!)
3) because i think i'm a better person. more of a friend to others. when i was using i was very self absorbed on where the next high was coming from. i used people to get drugs. i ignored people because i was too busy looking for drugs etc.

nice post 3 reasons why sobriety is worth it.

1)Because i always did sports at high level and they did lots of doping controls. But as well because doing 1 hour of intensive Physical activity gives you the highest feeling you can get, just relax on the sofa and hear some good music.

2)Because i care very little for what most of the people think of me. The important ones i do, but they like me as I am, drug and smoke free.

3)I always thought and think that watching drunk people do stupid things is much more funny, than being the one to do them and don't remember on the next day.

4) (there are so much more!) Because with the money you spend on these things you can buy your girlfriend an ice cream and go on a walk with her, or just make a person happy
