Hey, thanks for asking

Again sorry for not replying sooner... I’ve not exactly lost motivation but been a bit up and down.

Mostly I’ve been at 5/6 drinks a day but have had a few days up to 7/8 cans again. I’m trying to get back on track.

It’s all a process and everything can’t go 100% perfect all the time, just got to keep working towards the goal of abstinence.

There was some talk about getting meds to help with cravings if I find I’ve reached a sticking point but we’ll see how it goes for now. I have my next appointment next Wednesday having not had one this week.

We are still working on cutting back gradually. For the moment a medical detox isn’t on the cards.

As I said perhaps some of the meds to help with craving if needed.

I have read of Antabuse though. Sounds more like for relapse prevention. I understand even a tiny amount of alcohol can trigger a bad reaction and that’s how it works?

Hey, time for another update!

I've been doing pretty well.

I've managed to cut down to 4 cans a day every day since last Monday bar one. And that was yesterday when I was down the pub. Ended up with spare at home. I poured one down the sink but still drank an extra can.

Feeling pretty confident overall. My sleep hasn't been quite so good recently, tending to wake up early and not get back to sleep but other than that things are fine. I do find myself thinking I could drink another sometimes but since I only have the 4 in I don't. Not tempted enough to go out and buy more.

The plan is to continue with 4 for a short while until I feel comfortable reducing to 3. Hopefully soon. I'd love to be alcohol-free by sometime in July but we shall see.

Sorry you aren’t doing well. I’ll have a look in your thread. I do from time to time even if I don’t reply.

So things are continuing to go well. As in the daily check in thread I did have some bad anxiety last week but it seems to have been a one off. I brought it up at my appointment and for now it’s just something to keep an eye on.

The sweating is getting to me though. It’s mostly at nights but not always that bad. Still not nice to wake up with a film of sweat on occasion. However, I also seem prone to sweating in some other scenarios: after showers... I think maybe the heat? And recentyl I have been sweating buckets doing cleaning in my flat. Like when hoovering or scrubbing shower.

Is that normal? For heat or exertion to trigger that much sweats while reducing alcohol. Or is something else going on? Hopefully it’ll pass when I’m off alcohol.

As for that. I cut back to the equivalent of roughly 3 cans of beer a day since Saturday. I buy 4 bottles since that way I only have the exact amount in. Thus far it’s gone well. Had some anxiety today but there were extenuating circumstances. Guess we’ll see how tomorrow goes.

I finished them today at 9pm having started at 4pm. A little earlier than usual but I’ve had stuff going on so allowed it. Important thing was I didn’t let stuff get to me and end up drinking more than I should.

I’m not like tempted by more since I finished at 9pm. Won’t be in bed until nearer 11pm. I’m really proud I’m not drinking right until bed time at the moment.

I really hope things keep going this well. I think I’m going to stick at 3 cans a day until my appointment a week on Friday. We’ll see though, my nurse did say sometimes when you get to these levels you can reduce much more quickly and it’s just full abstinence that can be the hurdle. I think alcohol free days will feature soon too before that.

I’m getting quite excited now. I know the journey isn’t over by a long way though even if the end is in sight.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Addiction isn't easy, but do not give up on your sobriety journey. There are many different resources out to help you. Have you thought about a rehab center? I know people who have used thefix.com and rehabreviews.com to find a treatment center, and have now been sober for years. It definitely helps to have someone guide you through the process.

I wish you the best and a smooth recovery. Best of luck.
