I need to stop drinking. I got really drunk last night. I ended up throwing up several times and then drinking some more. I was guzzling the beers like crazy. I blacked out eventually. Apparently, I spent $120 I didn't have on drugs. That's what happens when I get drunk, I always want drugs...

I was really mean to my husband last night. He told me today he has had it with my drinking. I guess I've had it too. But it's so hard to stop. I don't drink every day or anything but I do drink regularly on the weekends.

I am unable to drink responsibly. If I have one, I'll have fifteen.

I don't really know how I'm going to do this. I always seem to fail.

Thanks for reading

-Heather

Heather, quitting is not easy, but it is worth the battle. My life has gotten so much better since I quit drinking. Do you have a plan on how you are going to quit?

I have no idea what my plan is. I'm thinking of taking antabuse, as that has helped in the past. It works for the short term. What I need to do though is make a long-term plan. I can't be on antabuse for life!

Quitting is not easy. It's one of the hardest things that I've ever done in my life. It's also been one of the best things I've done. You don't have to do it alone. Personally I find I need a lot of support, so I go to AA. I also went through an outpatient treatment centre at a local hospital that helped me get stopped.

I don't know if you've tried AA, but if not - give them a call, they're just about everywhere and they can be an incredible support group.

Heather, I take antabuse. I have been on it for over 2.5 years. I like to think of it as my own little insurance policy against the first drink. Yes, it is good to have a plan. Maybe you could take a look at who in your life would support you in getting sober. Start talking with them about what you want to do and ask them for encouragement. I don't go to AA or NA. So, it was really important for me to surround myself with supportive people and to be honest with them about my feelings. I also immersed myself in recovery literature. So....are you going to quit drinking?
