Hello...I have this situation; I'm unsure of whether or not I have a "real" eating disorder, and if I do, if it's severe enough for me to actually ask for help. Back at the end of July 2012, after my friend said, "If you eat, you lose the starvation contest", and I ate about 200-600 calories a day and exercised for 2-4. But then two months later, I started binge-eating for a week, then exercising/fasting it off, and the next week I'd eat 0-100 calories. Then I'd binge-eat again, and then eat 0-100 calories again, so basically, one week I was gaining and then the next I was losing it all. In three weeks (at the beginning) I lost weight and later on, it took about a month for me to gain even more back. I don't know if this is a "real" eating disorder, as it's only been roughly 8-9 months, and I do eat sometimes (the starve/binge thing), and if it is (thinking it would be EDNOS) I don't think it'd be good enough for me to ask for help...I don't know if people would believe me or not. Please advice?

Hi! Why don't you think you should tell somebody about it? It doesn't sound to me like what you are doing is healthy for your body or a more normal way of eating. I suggest you mention it to your primary care doc anyway.

You definitely have disordered eating......& the way you are going about your eating will definitely NOT give you the control over the weight that you may be wanting.
It's much better to eat in a healthy way with healthy foods in order to control your weight along with proper exercise. Why not get into healthy routines. Talking with GP's doesn't help much as they are only worried about any health problems that might be occuring....the GP I went to left the eating issues to my pdoc/psychologist & was only willing to focus on the health issues my eating was causing (& it ended up bad enough to be in the medical hospital for about a month). The problem with diets & not eating is that the body does go into starvation mode & it will stop functioning & will store fat. When the fat is gone, the body starts taking from the muscles & that can even be your heart. If you really study how the body acts & how food energy is used you will want to to put your control into eating appropriately rather than doing the starvation, bings/purge since all it does is mess up the body's functioning & you are left with problems for the rest of your life. Why even start down that road?
