So I've recently become a vegetarian and lowered my calorie intake and I tend to exercise each day aswel but nothing too crazy! Just on a stationary bike for about 30mins and then sit ups and stuff like that.

I've been like that for roughly 2 weeks now, I'm 5ft 1' and 21yrs old. My period started 3 days ago and usually its like an average flow but this time its really really light and sort of pointless.

Just wanted peoples opinions on whether this is just a one off random event or if it may mean that I am losing my period for good?

Thanks in advance!!

Hello joojam and may I say WELCOME to the extensive world of PC, personally I couldn't be without it. I'd had ED's for the past 30 plus years, and during that time, since going on my first ''diet'' aged 18, I've not had a period since. I tend to slip in and out of anorexia/bulimia and that is the sole reason in MY case, BUT, you must see your Dr' if this goes on, it could be anything. P.S. If this continues you could damage yourself enough not to ever have children (what happened to me) or you'll end up with oestoprosis (like me). Be careful on these very very low cal ''diets'' as they are far to stringent. Hope to see you around PC in future. [/b]

Interesting..my problems with anorexia itself hit at the age of 42. I lost such an extreme amount of weight ended up medically hospitalized the following few years with central line IV nutrition...I had been healthe & athletic before that staying at a min healthy weight. During that time my period NEVER STOPPED..

About 10 years later it hit again..but my age was about time for my period to stop. I didn't loose as much as the first time but was still at a dangerously low weight.

Think it depends on age, hormones in the body & general health. I had many monthe when the flow was less than others..but would recommend a visit with your gyno & hormone tests..why mess up your body?

Probably depends on what's going on in your life & physical health. I went through many years when I was healthy of having late periods.....my body was never on any kind of normal schedule....just as I'm never on any kind of real schedule myself.....depends on what is NORMAL for you also...probably more of a doc thing than a therapist at least initially.

I lost my period very early in my disorder, when my BMI was still technically in the healthy range. The situation was very similar to yours: I was a vegetarian, was eating less, and doing daily exercise. I think maybe I was burning off a lot of fat, so even though my weight was okay, my body fat percentage was low.

You can always go to a doctor if you're worried. Everyone had different bodies, and for some people, having irregular periods just happens sometimes for no reason and is nothing to worry about, but if you feel like something is wrong, it's always best to get it taken care of. You probably won't be diagnosed with anorexia (I think they normally say three missed periods for that), but they may want you to increase your calories.

it definitely can be a result of lowering calories or even your nutritional status as a whole. even if a person's weight is normal, there are a lot of things that can affect your period.

it could be a concern because if you ever want children but it keeps being different due to your intake, you might want to readjust what you are doing so it doesn't cause fertility issues potentially in the future for you.

i would keep track of it and maybe try to add in a few more snacks if it keeps going like it is in the months following. and definitely tell your doctor and therapist if it continues.

Ugh, my mother's neighbor had lipo done down in Brazil (she was from Brazil in the first place).....it was totally a waste of money & it's not something that looks that great either......I would rather eat healthy, exercise & loose weight the healthy way & have the weight & fat come off naturally, the body will do much better. She ended up gaining back every once of what she had lipo'd because she never changed her eating habits......(why waste the money then )

I started getting really hungry over the winter when it was really cold & I don't heat my house warm because I can't afford the electric bill otherwise.....so the food give me the energy I need to even function or maybe just to survive the cold.

For some reason after my oral surgery, & all the anesthetic I had for that 1 1/2 hour surgery, I have been hungry also where I never used to even feel hungry before this year. I don't even have teeth to eat with & had to puree everything I eat. I am trying hard to keep my weight under control. Know that there was a lot of healing that's going on especially with the bone & then getting implants, I need to eat healthy. Eating a much more well rounded diet now also.....but I'm realizing how really careful with the eating I need to be & after surgery I haven't had the energy to do much of anything. Just now getting back outside to mow my fields & work in the yard but my energy is so low, I think that may be why everything I eat goes to weight because even my metobalism that used to eat off the calories has slowed down......I'm not happy about this situation either.
