It's all good. Just want to make sure that if I get banned, it's for something I actually did at least.

One of the treatments I have read about is Schema therapy.I find it difficult to conceive of such a simplistic suggestion.I imagine that any type of therapy ....for it to be useful...there'd need to be some sort of drive to persue the treatment ...whatever that drive may be.
There is a difference between sociopathy and psychopathy. They are subsets of ASPD.The symptoms of either may include or disclude a variety of characteristics, some of which are behavior, social deviance, affective and interpersonal factors. Most felons meet criteria for ASPD.....and psychopathy:using Hare PCL-R is found in 20% of inmates.DSM-4 trials did not include incarcerated population.
Dissocial personality disorder see:World Health Organisations ICD-10 requires 3 of 7 criteria and rules out conduct disorder.
Millon has 5 subtypes for ASPD of which none or any number are needed to be exhibited ...lol
There are many co-dx which are common(differential dx)(Schema and med marijuana being investigated as treatments?Cool it works for sons paranoid schizophrenia).
Lykken feels psychopathy and sociopathy are different in that psychopaths are born with temperamental differences and lack of interpretation of social norms...sociopaths...he feels...are result of negative sociological factors. Both as result of interaction between genetics/environment.Psychopathy leans toward hereditary...and Sociopathy leans toward environmental.

Do I really know what I am talking about...no I have read this and understand it on a comparatively small scale....lol....However I find it to be hugely interesting!
Sorry for your experience in chat Alpha...good you're here.

The problem is often a person, but I was just giving an example. Either way, my experiences with asking non-psychopaths for help are similar to AlphaMike's experience in chat. Even when I was very careful and courteous when describing some of my problems, I was met with ridicule and, eventually, got banned from the site. Needless to say, I've been somewhat reluctant to risk my reputation outside of internet communities as there are far greater risks involved.

Myers
- i understand some of your difficulty Myers but obviously not all - it would seem you are stuck between a rock and ahard place as they say , people wiht ASPD - prob wouldnt care unless it benefited them or would as you stated want to go visit the person wiht a violent solution and people who dont have ASPD would either be triggered or ridicule you - this is what i have interpreted from your posts - correct me if im wrong

by the way if someone ridicules you in a post you can report them and they wil be the one getting the warning

perhaps you could test the waters here with a minor irritation of yours and see where that went?

AlphaMikeFoxtrot - i fyou wanted to post about somthing that may be triggering or upsetting to others there is the trigger icon below this message that you can put on the post you can also post a warning in the title for example *** Warning - talk of Violence ****

that way people who are triggered by that will not read it or read it at their own risk knowing they may be triggered

You hit the nail on the head with that interpretation. And I suppose it couldn't hurt to test the waters and see what happens. Although, I have this mask set so nicely in place, it might be hard to change it.

P7 takes a seat and waits patiently ......

oh, and a to Masks, you know we all wear them right

and i would bet that behind the mask you are wearng... lies another one - actually have quite a collection so many that in fact sometimes its hard to know where the masks end and the person begins

"wanting to go visit the person with a violent solution" sounds about right. what other option is there when irrefutable logic fails?

Yes, I vanished... ahhh... meds... think I may have had a bout of mania...

Anyway...

Interesting happening while I was gone that fits in here nicely... I used manipulation the other day because I needed a "fix". Worked well for stroking my ego and served to support some animal rescue place in the process. Figuring that I really hadn't done any harm I was gloating with a friend... They were appalled! (thought they knew me well enough to expect this kind of behavior... oh well). No one was harmed in the process it was just a fun little game of "can I get you to do what I want" and it got a few extra bucks donated to a shelter... And still I was criticized... if only they knew the things I was up to in a bad mood rather than merely a playful one!

Awww P-7....I guess all people manipulate to a degree. We learn that it is necessary.A baby learns that crying gets its needs met...a person on a job interview may have directly decided which clothes, attitude ect will assist in getting the job.A teen knows how to get the affect they desire from parents.I guess the difference is consciously thinking...Hmm....how do I manipulate this to my benefit...and not consciously thinking it...But in situations of human emotions being manipulated and thinking clearly 'how to manipulate'....that doesn't occur to me.IDK ....I just can't understand that.I am not judging but I just don't understand making a conscious thought...how can I manipulate. On a side note....P-7....seeing your good mood makes me smile irl!.....hug hug hug

Omers- I manipulate quite a lot too. I really don't see a problem with it as it doesnt hurt anyone and it gets me what I want. Usually thats just attention. I probably manipulate my therapist the most often when I am feeling unconnected by creating and exagerating symptoms. Its getting much better, however I still do it several times a month. I don't think shes picked up on it yet. lol. The trick to getting away with manipulation for me is to first manipulate myself into at least partially believing my story. Then if I at least partially believe my story, I can pull of an act with an air of confidence that people believe. Its wonderful for pulling sick days from school. In fact I just pulled one last friday. People fall for it 95% of the time and since there isn't any harm done. I don't usually see the problem with it. So you arent alone. Although it sounds like you use your manipulation for better purposes than I use mine.

That's hearsay!

Everyone manipulates and wears a mask. Everyone has psychopathic tendencies, most to a very, very small degree. But most of you state that you never have the intention to harm and make an effort to avoid doing so. You also state that it is somewhat difficult to lie convincingly. Psychopaths, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoy lying and manipulating, especially if it causes harm. Sometimes we do it just for fun. Take Mat, for example...

Mat, on one unfortunate day, experienced an abrupt and isolated gravity shift which caused him to fall over a railing, breaking his leg. Or, at least, that's what he told us. He had to have a cast and walk with crutches for awhile, which he hated. Not surprisingly, we found him napping on a counter about a week later sans crutches. When Alex asked him what happened to them, he claimed that he had accidentally left my front door open and one of my dogs escaped. He, not wanting my kids to find out and worry, went to go look for Sam himself. So he followed Sam for awhile, but she kept wandering further away. Eventually, he had crutched and gimped his way to a fenced in field where a bunch of cows were grazing. There he saw a calf tangled in some loose barbed wire. He, being the kind heart that he is, couldn't turn away from the calf's suffering, so he tried to get the barbed wire off the calf. However, it was so tangled that he needed to use his crutches to separate it and free the poor baby calf. When he was finished, the crutches were so entangled he couldn't get them free. So he grabbed Sam and gimped his way over to the nearby farmhouse. After explaining what happened, the man who owned the herd was so grateful that he offered to pay Mat for his troubles. But, being the generous soul that he is, Mat turned it down, instead accepting some soup for lunch. I don't recall what all he said about the lunch, but he described it with great detail. The man, I forget his name, then dropped Mat and Sam off at my place.

Later that afternoon, as Nikki, the kids, and I were walking to the park and I was repeating this ridiculous story to her, we found said crutches. What really happened... Wade and Mat had taken the crutches and wedged them in a park bench, using bike chains and duct tape to hold them in place. They got a few bungee cords from a hardware store and an athletic cup and made a giant sling shot which they used to fire paint-soaked tennis balls at opponents in a paintball match.

As for the calf and generous family who offered him lunch... They don't exist. He made up the name. There's not even a cattle ranch anywhere near my house. But he was quite convincing. I was impressed.
Thanks for this!

Ahhh... manipulating T's is fair game... T's are just people we pay to manipulate us in specific directions... turning it back around every now and then just shows that we are learning.

@ Wolfsong... what with the ????s ? tried to drop a line and couldn't.
Anyway...
There are also a series of ways to manipulate that are often used in commercials, marketing and stores. I used these to help "optimize" an opportunity for a shelter. Was then telling a friend over the phone about the specific "skills" I used. OMG she was appalled! How could I be so unethical.
Dunno... for me it is just part of being conscious about what we do, what we mean and the results it gets. So many people manipulate unconsciously... are those of us who do it consciously worse? or better????? Perhaps just the same.

Haha thats hilarious. I love the story. So elaborate. I can just invision the crutch slingshot. It sounds amazing. I'd have loved to see it.

What difference does it make omers? IMHO I don't think manipulation makes you a bad person. In my case manipulation is often the only way I can get what I need since I'm so bad at verbalizing things effectively being ASD. That and it can be fun. I feel slightly guilty about that part. But being a highfunctioning Aspie with a very high iq its very easy to imitate and act things out. For me symptoms are one of the easist to act. I can almost manipulate myself into being in distress. I don't know why symptoms are so easy to manipulate for me. I suppose I'm decent at lying as well. It all has to do with voice inflections and stuff. I worry about it sometimes, how easy manipulation is, how often i get away with it etc. but i don't know if it really matters. If it doesnt hurt anyone and it gets me what I want/need, whats so bad about it?
Thanks for this!
