I think it would be based upon how well stablized she is on medication and therapy. OCPD Parent

No therapy (now), and little meds. What I mean by my question is, what would normally happen to kids whose parents have this disorder? Would they turn out the same, or the opposite? Would they try to rebel later in life to escape the constant structure or find security in it? I know there are no right/wrong answers, but statistic wise, what is the outcome?

I really don't know. I guess it would depend on the individual kid?

Scroll 1/2 way down the page of the link. It is about an adult mother/daughter relationship but it may give you an idea.

Hello Hereiam,

Being an ocd mother of 3 children (13,10, & 8), I can say that so far I have not really seen many "ocd" behaviors in my children, however I do ask that they wash their hands a lot. I also noticed that one of my sons insisted that things be an even number (like myself). That however seems not to be a problem anymore for him. I know I affect my family because of the way I am. In the new book I purchased today "Overcoming Compulsive Washing" by Paul Munford PhD He says that there maybe genetic factors with OCD. That ppl with ocd have a significantly higher percentage of family members with ocd then ppl without the disorder.

I dont know if this helps at all and I am sorry that the information is not that encouraging, however so far my children have not shown any strong ocd problem and they are at the prime age for developing symptoms. (29% before age 7, 52% 8-12, and 19% 13 and above. OCD in adults usually show up in early 20's)

I'm 54, and my dad was somewhat OCD....undiagnosed, of course, setting clocks in the house to times which were unrecognizeable to any of us to him, somewhat compulsive checking, and an overwhelming obsession with religion to the neglect of us in the home. Though I say that, he was also very intelligent, though uneducated, a gifted musician, and also very kind and humble. I have fond memories of him.
I have recognized some of the obsessive traits in myself, particularly if I'm under prolonged stress....with obsessive thoughts which plague me, however I am on medication which has recently been upped and is helping.
