hi, run into a little problem..
i've got a therapy sessions tomorrow. and i've been given an extensive questionnaire to fill in. it's the Yale Brown obsessive symptoms checklist (modified). now i really don't want to give it back. i feel it's way too personal. and even if i filled it in and handed it to them. i don't feel like i'd be able to talk to about it as i'm mortified by it all. the BDD one was bad enough to complete, but this would be too awkward to actually talk to someone about??? what should i do? circles. :-) |

Therapy there is a is part of getting down to your fears in it as well---
I think you should talk to your therapist about this questioner; I am sure it is something that is too help you with your progress. I can totally relate with being afraid with exposure- but sometimes it does make us stronger to do so-- usually (*usually*) it does; and *some times* it is not that bad. I do wish you well.

Fears cannot go away if they are not confronted; you'll keep being chased by the same monsters in the same dreams until you turn around and say, "Stop chasing me!" The only way to do that is to acknowledge you are being chased by monsters.
One usually doesn't talk directly about the tests one takes for therapy, especially at first; they are just to give the therapist an idea of scope and strength of our symptoms. I would turn in the tests but, if your therapist wants to discuss them before you are ready, tell the therapist "no, not yet". You are in charge of how quickly your therapy confronts your fears (or "if" it does; you can not turn in the questionnaire and keep your fears if you want).

Hi circles5
Take your time and think about it. It usually helps the T to understand your symptoms better which in turn help you combat your fears. Dont take it too personal, these are set of information. As well you can decide about the time of discussion when you feel comfortable. Good luck to get well soon. |

I would not turn it in. Just explain to them that it is too personal.
They should understand. If they don't then ohh well. It's your choice of how your therapy works for you. It takes time to learn to trust others. |

thankyou all for your responses.
sorry i didn't get back sooner. well i ended up not handing it in... i even brought it along to the session, put it on the table... told her not to read it, and then took it back home with me ![]() i was also unable to answer most of the questions in the therapy sessions honestly, if at all. it was a mess. so i've been signed off. A big part of the mess is living with my NPD dad and my concerns about having NPD myself. which was throwing a big spanner in the works. i want to face my demons, but it seems i've built my whole life around avoiding them... so i've got a big drop when i do... ![]() Bx |
