To begin with I can't take any SSRI. They make everything look like it is swirling, loss of balance and I can't stay awake for more than 20 minutes.
I tried:
- Prozac (could take when I was pregnant though...)
- Pristiq
- Paxil
- Zoloft (HORRID nightmares. at 15 I was jumping in my grandmothers bed)
- Lexapro

My pdoc then put me on Remeron. Stopped my panic attacks (was having 15+ a day) BUT* made me MUCH more paranoid.
Now I'm on only BusPar- but it barely takes the edge off of the anxiety, and I'm on it 2x a day. Does nothing for anger, rage, obsessive thoughts, paranoia...etc.
I of course have Xanax as needed, but HATE***** to take it.

I was on Depakote once before, and it did help tremendously. But my current doctor thinks I only have GAD- so I don't believe she would give me Dep. The doc who gave it before was thinking BP.

Im also on Buspar. Its my first. I don't want to take anything else. Its mild yes that is why I like it. I have heard it does not work for everyone though. I have read it can take up to six weeks to reach full effect but you may want to discuss it with your doctor. I have only been on it for a week. I know medication is helpful but not the only thing have you been trying other anxiety control techniques?

There was a thread in "Psychiatric Medication" about Neurontin (Gapapentin) being used to treat anxiety. Its primary use is to treat epilepsy and neuropathic pain, but occasionally doctors will prescribe it to people with anxiety. I'm not sure if there is a whole lot of research done on its effectiveness in those regards, however, it might be a worthwhile option to explore if nothing else has worked for you.

I have been resistant to practically every medication I have tried (which is more than I can count on two hands) and while I was in a residential treatment program the doctor put me on Neurontin for my anxiety. I originally took it three times daily, but found out that in my case it was more effective as a PRN.

Do remember that everyone is different; what works for one person may not work for someone else.

It might be helpful to speak with another doctor to get a second opinion.

Yes, it's mild- like I said it does take the edge off. But I barely feel better than when I was on nothing at all.

I've been on it for months.
