This morning was horrible.I I made my own doctor's appointment for the first time. I have been looking for a new doctor so I found one place that looked ok. I was nervous the whole way there. I got there and the place reminded me of a hospital and a mall put together (I hate both). I had no idea where to go.

I went to get into the elevator that some people were in they looked me straight in the eye and let it close in my face. After wandering around I finally found my doctor. They made me take my shoes off to measure my height, but I wasn't wearing socks... I wonder how many other people have done the same...

My doctor was from a different country and I didn't understand a word he said. I didn't ask him to repeat himself because I was already freaking out with so much going on. He wrote me a prescription for who knows what (that I will not be filling) and walked out of the room leaving the door open. I just sat there not knowing what to do until a nurse said to come on out. She gave me a paper and told me to go to the labwork area place.

I went over there and it was so crowded which just added to my anxiety. Sitting there I realized they were going to ask for a urine sample and take blood. That was it for me. I was too far gone. I got up and told the lady at the lab work desk I was leaving. Now I feel like I never want to go to another doctor again. I want to drop all of my medications and curl up in a ball. -_-

Aww, bless you. I don't know you but as a mom this pulls at my heart strings.
Did you not have anyone to go with you? It was very brave of you to arrange all this & show up.
Just so, so sorry it turned out so traumatic. There are other very good docs out there so please don't give up.
Maybe at school you can see a counselor & get some advice on what to do next.
Have read some of your post & maybe being back at school will give you some structure & peace, I hope so.
Keep plugging away, it's worth it, I promise.

Take care of your self.

PS. Love your music.

Thank you so much that all meant a lot to me. Both of you.

Kindachaotic, My grandpa took me. He has PTSD so he understood when I wanted to leave. He waited for me in the waiting room. I'll definitely go see the counselor at me school she's really nice and helpful, so hopefully she can tell me some options.

And thank you very much for the compliment.

You just need to go to a doctor's room that is less hectic.

((((((((B&B)))))))))...I'm so sorry you had such a rotten experience. Don't give up. Next time, if it is too big a place and overwhelming, just walk out. There are scads of psychiatrists out there. Maybe choose one in private practice, google her, then google earth her office. You'll be able to tell alot from that.

I just switched Drs and was overwhelmed by the size of the building he worked in. I just kept asking questions at every desk, even though I felt and must have sounded dense.
I liked him, and will go back ONLY for that reason.

Good idea to ask the counselor for help...I bet she can refer you to someone who meets your needs.
Thanks for this!

Thank you very much you two. I'm definitely going to try and stay with private practice when I decide to try again.

Wow, how brave of you to go through all of that! I'm sorry your experience was so bad though. It's nice to hear you say "when I try again". You seem very hopeful. I hope you are recovering from your difficult morning and I appreciate you posting this on here. Take care of yourself and good luck trying to figure this all out. Glad you can go see your counselor at school soon.

I tried to deal with my mental health problems when I was your age, when I was in college, & I didn't manage as well as you did. I wasn't even able to realize--as you did--that I might do better having someone with me ...

So big kudos to you for having that much common sense going for you. I'm impressed!

No, seriously ... I mean it.

You've got lots of common sense. Here in the forums, you're in charge of you ... You call your shots, set your pace, do your research, have your act pretty much together. I mean, you are working on yourself and your issues & looking for better ways to cope and function.

So for you to fall apart just says to me that you need a great team to work with, a pdoc and T maybe. But ones whose language skills are equal to yours, for heaven's sake! That's a minimum. The best auto mechanic in the world is useless if you're driving a Ford & the only tools she has are a European caliber. You're the consumer here: make your demands known.

If I can do anything to help you ... find the right pdoc or whatever, please get in touch. You should be able to get it all right. Not by yourself, but with the right help you should be fine.

I feel that your premature departure from the doctor's office was the right thing to do. I myself have got up and walked out of several physicians offices and dentist for that matter because I couldn't understand them. I also suffer from anxiety and sometimes pure panic when in doctors offices unless I know them well, so I know the feeling. Hopefully you can find another practice that isn't so triggering.

Well... Yesterday my mom made me an appointment with another doctor for this morning. I'm nervous, but I'm sure it can't be worse than the last visit.

Hi Bats,

Whenever I make an appointment for a new Dr. I always check out their reviews online. I can't remember the name of the website I use, but I think it's healthgrades or something like that. It tells you what university they graduated from, how long they've been in practice, if they have any specialties, etc.

Hope that helps,
Shady

So sorry about your experience. When you are up for it, making a new apt maybe with a new dr, can you let them know you have an anxiety issue and will need help navigating your apt? I feel like I need to do this too. I hate my dr.'s office--feels like fast food not healthcare.
Thanks for this!

It was much better! Someone held the elevator for me instead of letting in close in my face, everyone was patient, it was quiet, there was barely anyone there, and everything was explained to me in a calm understandable manner!!! When they took my pulse, it was also significantly lower than the other place. Go figure

Try to find someone who can recommend a doctor. It is important that you are able to understand your doctor and are comfortable asking that doctor whatever questions you may have. Doing anything new can bring on anxiety-- I get that a lot too. There are some doctor's offices that have times in the morning where they can do the bloodwork right there in the office. You shouldn't give up. There are many doctors that are nice and really want to help. Best of luck.

He switched me to Adderall twice a day and referred me to a psychiatrist.
