I am a 25 year old female, and I am new to the site (as of today). I suffer from GAD, and have recently taken myself off of meds (I have taken so many, but Zoloft is the latest). As I am going through several life changes (new job in the future, father is possibly very sick), I am experiencing uncontrollable worry. Even the things that I learned from therapy are not working. I don't like being on meds, as I don't feel like myself. I feel as though I have the fishbowl effect while on them, things just seem foggy and life uninteresting while on meds. I'm contemplating going back on Zoloft to help fend-off the obsessive worry, but I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas about how to help myself. I'm feeling so yucky, I really could use some support. Thanks!

Hi aimsyw and welcome!

I feel as though I have the fishbowl effect while on them, I'm contemplating going back on Zoloft

Have you tried any other meds?

Sometimes a change is all it takes. I know when I was on Zoloft I was a zombie. I was flat. Had no emotions whatsoever. Yet it works wonders for some. My Dr. changed my prescription and it made a huge difference. New on the site

Hi, aimsyw - and welcome to Psych Central!
New on the site

Psych meds can affect so many people differently. I've been on Zoloft for 15-16 years and never had any problems with it. Others do better on another AD.

Whatever one you take, I'm a bit concerned you took yourself off the meds. Are you seeing a pdoc currently?

For anxiety - Ativan in low dosages works for me.

There are a lot of options...hang in there til you find the one(s) that work for you. New on the site

Hello aimsyw, I am a fellow DC girl... grew up in North East....Zoloft is a good med.... I have been on it in the past and started back on it in the last couple of weeks... it is making me a little more comfortable in my own body...... I was getting pretty panicky and having obsessive thoughts..... my life is better on meds then not ......

Zoloft never did a thing for ME, except make me gain weight - lol.... I would suggest that you talk to your doctor about taking some thing else, for there are many other good meds out there.... I am on Celexa 20 mg and a natural herb Valerian (taken PRN).

Good Luck.......
