I went to the doctor a while ago to figure this out. But she just told me I am hyperventilating and to get my breathing under control and ill be fine. But I want some other feedback because I think it has something to do with anxiety.

Every once in a while I will suddenly not be able to get enough air. No matter how much I try to regulate my breathing I just can't seem to get enough air. Sometimes I will yawn and start gagging cuz I can't get enough.

And then the tingling starts in my hands. It starts out pretty vague but it starts to creep up my arms. And sometimes goes to my mouth. And the entire time it slowly gets worse and worse to the point where it feels like my blood is vibrating.
Then I get hot and sweaty.

I just want to see if this is anxiety like I think it is. Do you guys have similar experiences?

I know someone who gets the not enough air feeling. don't know about the tingly feelings, though. If it was happening to me I'd have to guess anxiety...hope you get answers and help

I definitely get the tingly hands, sometimes feet and sometimes mouth/lips. I've been told that it's hyperventilation and that I'm a pro at it.

During anxiety attacks I normally don't get that 'I can't breathe' sensation but I surely get a lot of hyperventilation symptoms. For me the over-breathing comes first, then those symptoms then I might get very anxious over the sensations. Hope this helps.

Yes, it does sound like anxiety, but it's also a good idea to get checked out by your GP anyway. Panic symptoms can sometimes be caused by physical issues, and also if you're uncertain what's going on, it's always comforting to have gotten a clean bill of health from your doctor.
Thanks for this!

Yes it does sound like panic or anxiety. I get the tingly in my hands/forearms.
It will help to have breathing exercises to do because they will calm you and regulate your breathing too.

Hyperventilation syndrome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This should answer a lot of your questions!

I get the prickly/tingly on my neck, hands, and sometimes face (although face will usually feel numb.) To me, feeling like I can't get enough air is a big deal, it has started and escalated panic attacks and is usually what convinces me that I might die. Anything that makes me short breathed can make me anxious, along with the heavy chested feeling I can get from alcohol.

I have heard that these sensations can be caused by the imbalance of oxygen/carbon dioxide caused by hyperventilation.

Sounds like anxiety to me. Using the pranayama app am my phone really helps me regulate my breathing when this happens to me.
Thanks for this!

For me I don't even have to be anxious to get bad feelings if I start thinking about my breathing. If I start thinking about it and keep thinking I lose the ability to breathe naturally and I start to breathe either too much or too little. And I will feel like I don't get enough air or maybe more than I should have?? Bad anyway.

So every time I think about breathing I distract myself away from it at once. I think or do things that makes it impossible for me to think about breathing at the same time and then my breathing goes back to totally normal when my body takes care of it and I don't try consciously. Very soon I feel better because when I don't think of it my body naturally gets what it needs.

Now that I'm mostly sure it is anxiety, I'm a little angry my doctor blew me off when I tried to tell her. I feel like even if it was just hyperventilating she should be checking it out or something. She just told me it woul go away.

Was this a psychiatrist or a general medical doctor?

My thoughts. Sometimes this is just what doctors do if they think it is a one-time occurrence. They are not blowing you off. They do not want to perform expensive tests or prescribe a daily medication for a one-time episode. They expect the person to return and say that it hasn't gone away or gotten better after trying different things. This goes for things like pain, too.

Anxiety to me is a general feeling, and not an episode of hyperventilating. Hyperventilating sounds like a panic attack, which is set off by a fear that comes from our thoughts. Both are helped with therapy and things like relaxation techniques. Noticing what happens to set off the fear helps to understand it and to heal.
