My psychiatrist suggested I attend an anxiety group but then said there weren't any spaces so I didn't think about it again, however today I got a call saying I should attend the next one which starts next week. Aparently it is a six session thing. I just don't know what to expect, and im not really sure it will be of any help to me, since my anxiety has gone down a lot recently and I don't really want it to be a load of forced stuff or cbt as I didn't find that helpful. Has anybody else been to something like this? its an nhs six session class and has up to ten people per class

Hi Cally,
Well! It's up to you. I guess that if I were you I would give it a try to see how you like it. You decide. Give it a sort of probation period of 2-3 sessions or less. I know how you feel. I don't find CBT,DBT or whatever its called too useful. I feel that those kinds of classes are for people with ZERO healthy coping skills. Plus I don't trust the Doctor who invented it. He probably NEVER experienced trauma in childhood or at any time.
So you decide if your gonna like it & see if its worth the money you pay. Your psychiatrist needs to let YOU make up your own mind about going or not going.
So try it. Me? I'm not so crazy about the groups because I'm not too crazy about hearing other peoples issues since I have enough of my own to work through I just don't have the patience. I prefer one on one counseling.
Hope this helps you.

the idea is that exposure to the stimulus causes habituation. I was on a daily basis years ago. I noticed it worked. I was less cautious to share. However, if you meet someone there you can get into trouble and likely not return. Especially if that person is fubar and you are not aware until later you can be in serious trouble.
