Hey guys,

I posted a thread in the "Other Treatments" section, but I think it might be more appropriate here.

Anyone have any experience or success stories in using biofeedback for anxiety?

So, I am dx'd with GAD, and also deal with panic attacks. On an everyday basis, more often they're less punctuated or dramatic (rapid heartbeat, excessive sweating, some shaking in my voice, and internal tension). As most of us here can relate, they can be inhibiting and really get in the way of general satisfaction and success. I personally don't want to take any meds - just my personal preference. I've done it for other issues and would rather remain free of it at this point. So...

Anyone have any experience with using a biofeedback device for anxiety? If so, what sort of device/method would you recommend? Here's a link to biofeedback for anxiety within PC: Managing Anxiety with Biofeedback | World of Psychology . Thanks for sharing

I haven't tried biofeedback but I did try hypnosis and it worked well for a couple months after two sessions. I wasn't able to go back, but I am going to try it again soon. It totally freed me of symptoms and I had a whole new outlook on life.

Here's where it lost me..

It also teaches the individual how to control the brain’s activity and maintain the proper brainwave levels to achieve a calm and focused state.
Has there been a recent scientific break through I missed? Otherwise that is impossible. Sounds like pseudoscience to me or meditation

Hey Indievisible. Yeah, that's a pretty shaky description there. If I see pseudo-scientific language like that, I'm skeptical. Is it possible that this was a poorly-written description though? I mean I'm totally with you in that I do not agree with any sort of idea that there is some "proper" brainwave state. Hm. I think I need to do more research and see what other people think of it. Because from what I understand, biofeedback is really simply about self-monitoring. In the case of anxiety, it could mean having something that allows someone to take note of when they're feeling the physical symptoms. Okay...well, I'll continue reading more up on it.

Thanks for reading and sharing

Chocmouse, thanks for sharing your experience. I am certainly of the belief that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to wellness for people who might share the same symptoms or diagnoses.

In the meantime, I'll bump this thread. Anyone else with an anxiety or panic disorder have any experience with using a biofeedback device? Thanks!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
