So I've been trying to figure out if I'm actually scared of time passing, or if I'm just obsessing too much. I was triggered in early Febuary when my boyfriend casually said "time moves so fast that the next thing we know, it'll be this time next year." That comment freaked me out cause it was something that I've felt scared of before but not like this. I've been depressed and very anxious that my life is just passing me by.

My daughter will be going to high school this year and I'm wondering where did the time go. In turn, I worry about what I'll do when my kids are gone and that thought really scares me, too.

I think it's this sudden fear that's really affected me over the last 4 months and I don't know if the things I do to cope are helping since I still obsess about the worry. I've always had the fear of death, though. This also makes me worry if I'll be anxious as a senior... I'm only 34.

I know how you feel completely, lala-land123. I have had this recently as well and have been thinking about past memories in all negative fashions rather than anything positive. Time moves so quick that it is difficult to comprehend where or what you are doing right sometimes. Just know that time anxiety (chronophobia) will put a damper on the present and future. This is easier said than done for me as well. My girlfriend tells me I have FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), which makes me severely anxious with any choice and activity when I can be doing something else. Time comes and goes, just try to enjoy every moment you can, even if that is difficult. Feel better

Wow. I never knew there was a name for this thing I have. YES....I have always had, to some extent, chronophobia. I seem to have an acute sense of the passing of time, of the limitations of time, of the inevitability of the death of everything and everyone. I am 51 and try hard not to spend as much time as I do running over and over in my mind how it can possibly be that my babies...who were just born "last week"??...are now 28 and 25 years old...how can it be that I was *just* graduating high school...and am facing menopause....

Then there's just that sense of each minute approaching...it's here...fading away forever...

I could go on all night.

So, yeah. I'm right there with you.

And I agree with D73 about trying to enjoy the minutes, rather than grieving their passage. Not easy, but we have to try.

Joining this forum has certainly been an eye-opener. Chronophobia, who knew it had a name! And I'm there with ya. Also in my mid-thirties, I am ALWAYS obsessing about time, death and the PAST. Always. Don't have any advice for ya, but I'm learning today that just hearing you're not the only one is enormously helpful. Do you find that just laying out your thoughts helps in dealing with your
chronophobia? Really interested in this topic and others' experiences with it, as it truly is a life sucker if you fall down the chronophobia rabbit hole. Any experienced folks have any advice on how to pull oneself out of it? Thanks so much for posting this and providing a place to discuss.

Who knew it had a name for real? WOW!

I think about it all the time. I am going to be 34 as well this year, and I feel time is moving against me, and I am just wasting time and my life.

You're definitely not alone!!!!

I didn't know this had a name either. I am right there with you all, I feel like all the sudden I just woke up and I am in my 50s. I really don't feel that old but now I am helping raise my grand kids. I sometimes feel like life has just passed me by. I guess that is why they say live for the moment which I am trying real hard to do now and hopefully it is not to late. I wish I had an answer that would help us all.

There should be a group just for chronophobia. it is definitely the biggest issue I deal with because it's all wrapped up with depression, anxiety, and agitation. And OCD. And certain types of hypomania. It is AWFUL.
