I wonder if anyone else does this whenever they text someone or send a message online. Whenever I send a text, sometimes if I am nervous about the response, I flip the phone over so the face is downward and wait until I have enough courage to flip it back up to see what it says. Also sometimes I'll hide a chat room or a website in the same cases and then pop them back up when I feel ready to read the response. Anyone else do this or having similar experiences?

I know what you mean. I'm always scared of a response to one of my texts. Sometimes I have to turn my phone off. I start panicking, as well, if someone doesn't reply. I'll start beating myself up about it, saying they don't like me, don't want to talk to me etc, even though they might be busy or might not have their phone switch on.
I think it's slightly easier for me on a computer, though. Mainly because I can't see the person's reaction on their face of something I've said. And they don't know who I am personally, so they can't beat me up (I was beaten up by an ex-best friend's boyfriend). It's much harder in person to talk to anyone, because I'm so scared of their reaction. I sometimes think that if I go up to someone then they will just walk away and ignore me, and I'd be so humiliated. It's bad enough paying for something at a till when there's no self-service

I have this problem too, but on forums and Youtube.

Youtube is the one social media platform (if you wanna call it that) i am comfortable with using, but some of the people in the comments section of the site can be downright aggressive sometimes, especially when they have a reply to give you. It surprises me how many people can comment the mean things they do, and be unafraid and unashamed to use their real name.

There are two instances in particular where I've made a completely innocent comment on a video, and got a brutal reply. After reading their response, how angry their voice sounds, how offensive their language is, the feelings strike through me like lightning.. causing quite a rift between me and the site.

Luckily, whenever misfortune hits, time will do its healing. I bounce-back every time, albeit a little more cautious.
